This is a guide to using items and spells to recover HP and MP in Final Fantasy 7 Remake (FF7R). Learn what items or spells are used to restore HP/MP, as well as how to use items and spells from the menu.
List of Contents
The first way of recovering both HP and MP is to use an item from your inventory, which will allow you to recover a fixed amount of HP or MP. When you are outside of battle, you can do this at any time you'd like, but when in battle, you'll have to use one of your ATB bars in order to use an item.
Item | |
---|---|
HP Recovery | Potion |
MP Recovery | Ether |
HP and MP Recovery | Elixer, etc |
These items can be purchased in stores, as well as found inside of treasure chests within dungeons. These will prove to be extremely useful in the beginning of the game, so make sure you are stocked up on them.
The second way of recovering HP involves using healing spells like Cure or Cura to restore some HP, which will cost MP. Just like items, these will consume a bar of ATB when used in battle.
The only ability that can be used to recover MP is Aerith's Soul Drain, which absorbs MP from enemies. It may seem obvious, but there are no spells that can be used to recover MP, so make sure you manage your character's remaining MP above all.
In order to use spells like Cure, etc. your character needs to have the Healing Materia. You can obtain these by progressing through the story, buying them in stores, picking them up off the ground, etc.
The third method of restoring HP and MP is to rest on benches that show up in front of vending machines (rest points). Resting here will restore both HP and MP, similar to staying at an inn in the original FF7. You'll definitely want to try and stay at full HP and MP when possible, so rest on these every chance you get.
Regardless of whether or not you are in battle, you will have to pull up the command menu, choose item/spells, and then select the item or spell you would like to use. This differs from the original FF7, where you could open up the menu to use items and spells when paused.
When in battle, opening the menu will put you into wait mode, slowing down the actions of enemies and other nearby. This will give you a chance to take your time and select the spell or item you want to use.
