On my second play through I didn’t do the Mirielle side quest and was able to get Madam M’s odd jobs. So I don’t think it has anything to do with it.

PEOPLE! IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE THE FIRST MIRIELLE MISSION BACK IN CHAPTER 8, NO MATTER WHAT ANSWER PROMPTS YOU FOLLOW, YOU WILL BE LOCKED IN ON SAM'S QUEST GUARANTEED. I've done chapter 9 over and over again picking different answer prompts, but take please note, one of Madam M's missions, "the price of thievery" has Mirielle as the quest giver.

No it doesn't. Yes(Sam), Heads (Sam), 3,000 Gil (M) goes to Sam quests. It decides by whoever you favor more. So by Saying Yes(S), and Guessing the coin flip, (S) you chose favoring Sam over M

Going for the dressed to the nines trophy, I did the same route; yes, heads, and 3,000 gil. This time around I talked to the dad as well as all the NPCs that would be involved with the Sam quests and I got the Sam Quests. Can anyone confirm or refute this?

I got Sams odd jobs: I didn’t follow Johny to say yes, but I did take drank the bottle next to him at the coliseum and spoke to him and his dad around town. Also chose “Heads” with Sam and “Poor Man’s Massage” with Madam M. Note that I also didn’t do any side quest in chapter 8. Talk about many variables to consider. Maybe drinking the bottle helps towards doing Sam’s odd jobs. On my last play through I didn’t drink it but was also aiming for Madam M’s odd jobs.

How do you activate the side quest? Is it before Aerith changes or during?
