Silent Hill f's combat system puts a few new spins on the series' usual style, emphasizing melee combat and tools like dodging and countering as a core part of the fighting system.
Comparisons have been drawn between this new style and popular ARPG games, highlighting the potential difficulty and dynamic combat in Silent Hill f.
Silent Hill f's combat is also strictly melee from the player's side, as there are no guns in the game, unlike previous entries. Players are forced to get up and personal with every creature the game throws at them.

There are a variety of melee weapons available in Silent Hill f, with their own movesets in combat. Some are faster, while other are slower and hit harder.

Weapons acquired outside the Dark Shrine in Silent Hill f have durability, indicated by the moon-shaped meter beside the health bar. Weapons will break when it is fully depleted, requiring players to maintain with Toolkits.

Combat in Silent Hill f relies on managing the Stamina meter. As both attacking and dodging cost Stamina, players need to decide when to use it defensively or offensively in battle.

Focus Attacks deal heavy damage to enemies at the cost of Sanity. Note that Sanity will decrease while Focusing, and current max Sanity will be reduced upon unleashing a Focus attack.

Practice timing Perfect Dodges to alleviate the pressure in managing Stamina. Perfect Dodges restore Stamina when successful, allowing players to utilize it for attacks.
Perform a heavy attack or Focus attack when enemies blur to perform a Counter. This staggers the enemy, allowing players to deal damage while they're down until they recover.
Note that using Focus extends the window for Counter that allows for easier execution.
While the game features heavy action, the game does not fully require players to kill all enemies along the way. Run past enemies when able, to avoid facing unnecessary risks or reducing your weapon's durability.
Silent Hill f's combat can come across as a departure from how previous games in the series have handled fighting enemies, but the overall combat system is by no means bad.
The lack of firearms and focus on melee combat are a different take, but the core experience of taking on grotesque creatures with limited capabilities and resources remains intact.
