Igarashi Sakuko is a cheerful and dreamy mutual friend of Shu and Hinako. She has experience with rituals as her family manages the local Shinto shrine. Unfortunately, similar to her friends, Sakuko is another victim of the upcoming horrors that transpire in Ebusugaoka.

Sakuko was the first victim of the story who perished in Ebisugaoka. She was eliminated by the Fog Monster, where red flora and vines grew from her skin. Upon Hinako's return to the general store, she was covered in a sheet and laid to rest inside as Hinako fights the enemies surrounding the area.

Sakuko reappears in Dark Shrine Corridors as the Sakuko-like Entity, serving as the boss of the area. She dons the traditional miko robe in this form, alluding to her family background as servers of the Sennensugi Shrine.
Dark Shrine Corridors Walkthrough

Sakuko's family serves the Sennensugi Shrine, with her father serving as the head priest. Their shrine used to worship the Divine Tree until it was struck by lightning and burned to ash. Their family stopped worshipping it ever since, believing that the tree lost all its power.
After the Divine Tree was damaged, the Sennensugi Shrine relocated to north of Ebisugaoka and started worshipping the oldest Inari Shrine. This led to a conversion of faith, where the Tsukumogami Faith in the Divine Tree was fused with the Inari Faith.
Her journal entry mentions a supernatural disturbance around Ebisugaoka, where an ancient God is furious that their followers were stolen. This is likely due to the fusion of the two faiths, foreshadowing the divine forces that affected Hinako and Fox Mask in the story.
The Sennensugi Shrine used to practice the Tsukumogami Faith, centered around putting old tools to rest. Their figure of worship is the Divine Tree, a thousand-year-old cedar tree praised as divine in accordance with their faith.
The Sennensugi Shrine shifting to Inari Faith led to the followers worshipping the Fox God, drawing the Tsukumogami's ire. Their existence was confirmed in the true ending, where the Gods are in an argument while possessing both versions of Hinako.
True Ending (Ebisugaoka in Silence)
| One of my friends. She's always got her head up in the clouds and is a little strange. She's constantly trying to worm her way out of paying me back for the five hundred yen I lent her that one time. Her father is the head priest of the Sennensugi Shrine in town. She seems to take great pride in donning the traditional miko robes and selling charms during the New Year celebrations. Sakuko is very in touch with her spiritual side. She seems to always have some god or apparition visiting her dreams, telling her about this or that. According to Sakuko, there's been quite the supernatural disturbance around Ebisugaoka. Something about an ancient god who's furious about having their followers stolen from them, and now they're out for revenge or whatnot. I think Sakuko may have read one too many of those bizarre comics. Lately, she'll be laughing all happily one moment, then turn deadly serious and spout off some weird nonsense the next. Apparently, she's acting like that because she thinks it's cool, but it kind of creeped me out the first few times she did it. I hope she gets over this weird “supernatural” phase of hers. |
