Pray Abilities and Stats

Pray Ability Description
Health Depletes when Hinako receives hits, and dies upon reaching zero. Can be restored with items.
Sanity Depletes using Focus or receiving psychological damage. When zero, Health will decrease in place of Sanity.
Stamina Depletes when attacking, dodging, or running in combat.
Omamori Slot Omamori grants passive effects when equipped. Only 1 Omamori slot is available at the start.

Praying at the shrine costs Faith and Ema to upgrade the health, sanity, or stamina stats, or increase the number of omamori slots available. Knowing what to enshrine to gain faith, as well as balancing out upgrading Hinako's stats and pulling random Omamori, are two of the few things players need to understand pretty well.

Upgrading the stats will increase their maximum limits. This enables Hinako to receive more hits before dying, use Focus more often, or perform more actions in combat.

Prioritize Increasing Omamori Slots

  1. Omamori Slots
  2. Stamina
  3. Health
  4. Sanity

Prioritize increasing Omamori slots as the bonus passives can offset the lack of stats with effects such as restoring Health on a counter. Omamori upgrades are capped at 3 slots that carries over in New Game Plus.

Increase Stamina After Omamori Slots

Prioritize increasing Stamina second to perform more actions in combat. Stamina is tied to dodging and attacking, hence, increasing it can boost both survivability and damage.

Level Up Health and Sanity Last

Level up Health and Sanity last, prioritizing increasing Health first. While Health is directly tied to survivability, this can be compensated with proper dodging that requires Stamina.

Sanity, on the other hand, is mostly for psychological damage and Focus Attacks, which are uncommon mechanics and not as threatening in the game.

Respec is Not Available

Respec or resetting pray ability upgrades is not possible in Silent Hill f. Once upgraded, the stat or slot increases are permanent.
