The chapter immediately starts after Hinako wakes up from her dream, only to find Shu and Rinko disappeared once again. Get out of the middle school via the now unlocked gate to officially start your trek towards Shu's house.

After the cutscene that plays, you will be exploring the mountain path northwards Shu's house. The mountain path is more linear than expected so just continue to proceed and use your map as much as possible to know your position. Avoid enemies and use Shrines whenever possible to save your progress.
You will eventually find a lake, indicating halfway progress. Continue following the lake path and trek through the staircases heading to a signpost and a locked gate. There will be a Strange Note left on the signpost that you can to read to find your next objective.

Just as with every chapter in the game, you can detour slightly to off-road sections where you can find items such as Omamoris, Emas or more lore items that can help you understand the story. Do this with the expectation of more dangers so be careful when exploring!
List of All Items and Collectibles

Head south to the rightmost forest path in the map to reach the Mountain Refuge. You will enter the Mountain Refuge from a high place from this road and as such, you cannot head back to the same route after climbing down.
There will be an Hokora Shrine nearby as well as a Glowing Monster. There is also a section to the left where you have to interact with a wooden beam blocking the way, make sure to move it away so you can prepare later.

The Goat Omamori becomes available in New Game+ playthroughs. You will find it on a bench by the entrance of the hut where you get the Gate Key from.

The Gate Key is located to the right of the Hokora Shrine. Pick it up and open the way towards the small descent path blocked by the wooden beam seen earlier. You will then be tasked to head back and unlock the gate.

You will however, encounter the Fog Monster once again upon descent, which means you have to run through the lake path and the small bridge once more, this time, avoiding the Fog Monster's infection along the way. You will eventually reach the gate and after a cutscene, the Fog Monster stops.
However, the escape isn't over, as you eventually get ambushed again by the monster. Head straight towards the linear path to the north and run until you reach a Torii Gate, ending the chase.

You will eventually approach Shu's house to the north of the nearby Shrine but find it seemingly locked. Go around the back to open an outhouse and pick up the key as well as some important notes. You can then use the key to open Shu's house.
Hinako enters the building, only to find no one inside. She hears a voice coming from outside and opens the door, only to get thrashed by an entity. Losing consciousness, she wakes up in the Dark Shrine once again.
Dark Shrine Main Hall Walkthrough
In the outhouse, there is a special cutscene that is only available in New Game+. The story doesn't end during your first playthrough, so we suggest playing the game again to get a better understanding of Hinako's life in Ebisugaoka.

While you're looking for Shu's House in Ebisugaoka Mountain Path in Chapter 8, be sure to check the shed behind his house, specifically its right side. The Cracked Hibachi Brazier should be there next to some wooden planks.
