Shimizu Hinako is the main character of Silent Hill f. She was once a cheerful kid, but due to the pressure of expectations pushed on her by her friends and family, she became more restrained. Not to mention, she is now forced to navigate the cursed paths of her town, Ebisugaoka.

The first cutscene in Silent Hill f starts with Hinako reminiscing her past, where her friends rejected her as she plays with the boys a lot. Her sister, Junko, asks if she can play with her instead, displaying their sisterly bond. The scene cuts back to the present, where Hinako sees off Junko, now married and will be moving away.
Before the game starts, a scene occurs where her father, inebriated, was in an argument with Hinako. The scene reveals that it was her father's decision for Hinako to be married off to clear their family's debts, setting the tone for Hinako for the rest of the story.
From her Journal entries, Hinako is depicted to be highly individualistic, and despises having decisions made for her. This arranged marriage is likely the source of Hinako's spite, where she struggles to break free from her father's control.

Voices can be heard from the cast during the escape from the Dark Shrine. The post-credits scene later revealed police reports of the wedding massacre, where the red capsules present at the scene are implied to be identical to Hinako's red capsules in the game.
In Coming Home to Roost, it was implied that Hinako fell into substance abuse with the capsules supplied by Shu, hinted by his apologies during her escape. Hinako goes insane from stress and drug abuse, likely killed everyone at the scene, leading to the wedding massacre as mentioned by the police report.

In Silent Hill f lore, the Agura no Hotei-sama is said to be an elixir that can cleanse evil spirits but destroys your very self. After the clash between Hinako's selves, Fox Hinako was made to drink the elixir, and Fox Mask banishes the original Hinako immediately after.
After defeating Tsukumogami, the scene between Shu and Fox Mask displays how both male figures view Hinako. Shu mentions “lending” her to Fox Mask, where Hinako retorts by saying “Don't treat me like an object.”
In the post-credits scene, Fox Mask is seen taking Shiromuku inside, known to be Hinako herself as seen in Coming Home to Roost. Shiromuku's appearance as a faceless bride implies Hinako's loss of individuality and identity, supported by her face—adamantly screaming in resistance—literally cut off from herself.

Fox Mask reveals his true appearance and constantly makes remarks about his sacrifices for Hinako throughout the fight. Hinako asserts her wish to be free and make decisions on her own, yet Fox Mask continues to play the victim by asserting his unseen efforts without acknowledging her feelings on the matter.
Hinako stands up to Fox Mask in this ending, appreciating his kindness yet rejecting his affection after the fight. She and Shu leaves the Dark Shrine afterwards with playful banter, unaware of Shu's attempts to drug her prior to the events of the story.
The geysers in Ebisugaoka are known to have high arsenic concentration, as mentioned in the Serious Issues in Ebisugaoka, which started showing activity in the post-credits scene. While unclear, it may imply that Fox Mask is the guardian deity who protected Ebisugaoka from the geysers, now no longer present.

Hinako realizes that higher beings are influencing her actions and fate, resulting in events that led to the appearance of the Gods. They revealed Hinako to be the rare child blessed by divine power, and Fox Mask is heir to the clan who seeks to take the divine child as their wife.
After Gods' defeat, both versions of Hinako return to a Ebisugaoka. Fox Hinako receives Kotoyuki's letter and mentioned considering a relationship with him, this time out of her own free will. Hinako, on the other hand, ponders what to do next, likely hinting that she now has the freedom to decide what to do with her life.

While The Great Space Invasion! is a joke ending, the robot with the appearance of Shiromuku was explicitly stated to have killed Sakuko, confirming that Shiromuku is the Fog Monster encountered in Ebisugaoka.
The Great Space Invasion! Ending
| The following sections contain heavy speculation. Reader discretion is advised! |

Hinako is at least 15 years old, referencing the game's setting, the information in Article: Serious Issues in Ebisugaoka, and the revelation in the true ending.
If the Fox God is the guardian deity as hinted in The Fox Wets Its Tail, they may be responsible for calming the geysers mentioned in Article: Serious Issues in Ebisugaoka. This is likely in preparation for Hinako, as she was revealed to be the blessed child to be sought out by the heir of the Fox God's clan (Kotoyuki).
Additionally, the Silent Hill Transmission stream mentions that the game is set in 1960s Japan. As the geyser ceased activity in 1945, Hinako is likely to be at least 15 years old during the events of Silent Hill f.

Hinako is not dead, as her fate in Coming Home to Roost heavily implies that she was the perpetrator of the wedding massacre. This means that she exists in the real world and is able to interact with other entities, as well as leave an impact on society albeit with crime.
Rinko mentioning Hinako's death is likely referencing to the death of her old personality. Her profile in the official site mentions that she has grown restrained and hardly smiles, as opposed to her Journal entry mentioning her cheerful demeanor.

It was mentioned in her Journal entry that there are two Hinakos existing within her: the Shimizu Hinako whom she knows since birth, and Hinako who is trying to take over her body.
This is represented in the literal sense in the endings, where Shimizu Hinako is her original, rebellious self who wants to decide on her own, and Hinako is the subservient Hinako who grows into the role of Fox Mask's wife.
Notably, one of the Hinakos disappear in the good and bad endings. In the good ending, Fox Hinako disappears, retaining her original personality while exercising her freedom. In the bad ending, Shimizu Hinako disappears, losing her individuality and succumbing to her fate.

The Fox Arm likely alludes to Hinako's engagement to Fox Mask as he takes her hand in marriage. This is when Fox Hinako starts to take form, fully manifesting after half of her face is removed to wear the Mask of the Fox Clan.
In Coming Home to Roost, it was revealed that Shiromuku is Hinako herself. This is further supported in Fox's Wedding, where Fox Mask guides the figure wearing the same garments inside with Hinako's face on the ground screaming in resistance to her circumstances.
| Me. There's not a single extraordinary thing about me. Except maybe being tall for a girl my age. I used to be in the Track & Field Club, which is probably why I'm better at sports than most girls. I guess I got used to running around a lot when I was a kid since I preferred playing with boys. I will admit, I can be quite stubborn at times. I don't like accepting things that other people decide for me, even if it's the right thing to do. More than once, I've rebelled and made the wrong decision, only to regret it later. Unlike my sister Junko, who was always the golden child, I've been a handful ever since I was little. My parents told me that I never listened to a single word they said. I'd make my mom cry and my dad furious. But Junko was always there for me. She understood me. She looked out for me. That's why I love my sister and have always done what she's asked of me... Or, at least, I've tried. She would smooth things out between me and my parents, which made life in that house a little more bearable. That is, until she got married, of course. I've always despised people who tell me how to act just because I'm a girl. Shu was different, though. He was the only one who ever understood me. We were perfect partners. I considered him a true companion. As we got older, the pressure from our parents got stronger. Even still, Shu never stopped treating me like his equal, regardless of my gender. There exist two Hinakos inside me now: Shimizu Hinako, whom I have known since birth; and Hinako, a woman who is trying to steal my body from the old me. It's like an alien is trying to take over me. If this were Space Wars, my partner should be coming to the rescue, but there's no sign of him... Nothing gets on my nerves more than other people trying to make decisions for me. Even if what they're saying is right, it just rubs me the wrong way. I'd rather make a hundred mistakes on my own than follow someone else's commands. But that can make for a lonely life, one where I refuse to listen to anyone else. I want to become the kind of person who truly listens to what others have to say. Of course, it'll still be up to me whom I listen to. And that will be someone I can trust. Someone who will walk alongside me, hand in hand. However, making long lists of things I hate is just a way of running away from the real issues I have with my inner self. I have to step up and face what's inside of me. Even if I don't like what I see. Being able to take my time and carefully think things through before making a decision is what's most important to me. |
