Story Mode First Puzzle Solution
As your first puzzle, the Altar's solution for Story difficulty is relatively easy, as you'll only have to match the knots wrapped around the offerings with the knot symbols on the pedestals and place them in order, from left to right:
- Dress
- Rat
- Pot
- Branches
- Fan
Hard Mode First Puzzle Solution
On Hard difficulty, the first puzzle has the Altar pedestals display flower and plant symbols instead of knots. While a clue is provided at the Altar, it has no real bearing on solving the puzzle. Instead, carefully inspect each offering, match its floral or botanical patterns to the corresponding pedestal symbol, and place them in order from left to right:
- Fan
- Branches
- Pot
- Dress
- Rat

For Lost in the Fog difficulty, the Altar pedestals will have no symbol, but you will be provided with a poem that hints at the items' arrangement. This is a riddle that when solved, arranges the Altar offerings from left to right in this order:
- Fan
- Branches
- Dress
- Rat
- Pot
The reasoning behind this arrangement is that being wed means they should be side-by-side, and the keywords mentioned can be observed from the objects through symbols, the material, or the object itself.

Located in the Dark Shrine Path
The Altar is the very first puzzle encountered in the game, and can be found in the Grand Hall upon waking up from your fight with the monsters of Ebisugaoka. Your first objective in the area is to get out and solve the puzzle to continue exploring the Dark Shrine Path.
