Silent Hill f is not directly connected to the earlier Silent Hill games, and was intentionally designed to be a standalone game not requiring knowledge of the series' past titles.
Much of the lore, story, characters and thematics of earlier Silent Hill games do not appear in the game, which means players new to Silent Hill can find this game to be a good entry point to the franchise, albeit with a different tune compared to the usual Silent Hill formula the series is known for.
Despite this however, implications on certain elements of Silent Hill f can be made. The game never directly confirms them, but parallels can be found about possible similarities that occured in the past titles.

Silent Hill f does share some similar elements to the earlier games in the series, one of which is the usage of Fog to cover the area, reducing visibility and inducting the series' signature flavor of horror into play.
This game's fog however, is not as punishing compared to the older titles in the series, either due to graphical improvements, usage of Lumen to emphasize light rays or higher fidelity which reduces some of the horror quality originally provided by the fog.
White Claudia is a hallucinogenic herb introduced in the first Silent Hill, used by a cult to put people in a highly-suggestible state and may explain the unreliably-defined horrors experienced by the earlier games' protagonists.
This herb is not present in Silent Hill f, but there is a certain type of plant growing behind Shu's house that has similar properties to White Claudia. You can then piece together some notes found near their shed, implying that Shu intentionally used this herb for Hinako's medication. Whether they are the same plant however, is never truly confirmed by the game.
Is White Claudia in the Red Capsule?

The Otherworld is the grotesque, dangerous world that main characters in the Silent Hill games go through, oftentimes melting into the real world through reasons unknown and suddenly turning normal places into nightmares filled with monsters and decay.
There is no Otherworld in Silent Hill f, but the creeping corruption of Ebisugaoka and the Dark Shrine provide a similar vibe— another world that basically assaults the character until they can escape it.
Silent Hill usually presents its' characters as an Everyman, that is, the character is usually unable to fight effectively and is rather weak, easy to eliminate and vulnerable. While the strength of protagonists is a common topic of debate amongst fans, Silent Hill f undeniably presents a vulnerable girl as the main lead.
Hinako will struggle to fight against most of the monsters and horrors she encounters, however, in comparison to other protagonists, she also is able to stand her ground much better in her game which is a point of contention about the character in itself.

Perhaps the most similar aspect of all Silent Hill games is the exploration of the protagonists' traumatic background and how the horrors they face inadvertedly help in understanding and forgiving themselves.
Silent Hill f does not lose this aspect at all, as Hinako's story also focuses on her fears and the warping of her mindset. She goes through multiple layers of metaphorical horrors just to try and solve her predicament in the process.

This element of Silent Hill is perhaps the most consistent trope that is never lost in any of the games, including Silent Hill f. The story of all Silent Hill games are intentionally vague and the endings established always tell different perspectives, with usually one true ending required to know what actually happened.
Silent Hill f dives into this perspective more, and Hinako herself is an unreliable narrator due to her trance as a result of the medication she took or other reasons. Note that the game never directly tells you whether the Ebisugaoka you see in-game is actually real or not.

Almost every game in the series features a UFO Ending and sometimes even a Dog Ending, started by the first Silent Hill, probably to cut through all the horror and trauma the players go through when playing the game.
SIlent Hill f is no different, featuring its own 1960s-era Japan rendition of the UFO Ending, and this plot beat is actually somehow relevant in the game's story compared to the older titles!
Silent Hill f shares several subtle and not-so-subtle elements from the actual game despite not being directly connected to them. But we would like to know your thoughts in the comments section down below!
