Get the Hairpin from the Shed
A Hairpin can be found inside a woven basket in the school garden shed, located at the lower eastern corner. Go outside and get the item, which you'll need in order to obtain the stairwell key.
Open the Desk Drawer in the Faculty Room
Once you get the Hairpin, head to the office located beside the shoe lockers by the school's entrance, and unlock the desk drawer. You will be able to get the key for the door in the stairwell.

Get Clues from the Chalk and Bulletin Boards

The key is found in the garden, by a flower bed. There are two clues that give insight as to why the key is located there. The bulletin board in the side office and the chalk board at the stairwell give clues that indicate the vice principal likes flowers.
Obtain the Stairwell Key from the Flower Bed
Go outside to the school garden and go to the upper western area where you can find a row of flower beds. The stairwell key can be found in the leftmost Chrysanthemum bed, which you can pick up to unlock the door leading to the school's 2nd floor.

Find the Clue from the Shoe Locker
A clue can be found in one of the shoe lockers by the entrance of the middle school. The clue is a Student's Prank Drawing that gives hints to the flower pots with Hydrangeas outside in the school yard.
Retrieve the Stairwell Key from the Flower Pots
Go to the Hydrangea flower pots in the upper ground area of the school courtyard. You will find the Main Building 2F Stair Key on the table just near the entrance of the school.

The Stairwell Puzzle can be found once you explore Ebisugaoka Middle School. Go to the left stairwell to find a locked door blocking access to the 2nd floor.

Access to Ebisugaoka Middle School 2F
Once you retrieve the key, you will be able to access 2F of the Ebisugaoka Middle School. The 2nd floor is important to progress the story and contains the next puzzle you need to resolve.
