Ease of Use and DPS Potential are the two factors considered in creating this tier list for weapons. It's important to deal as much damage as possible within the time limit, so we chose the weapons that deal the most damage while being easy to pick up.
The Sword and Shield deals significant damage while still being easy to use! This weapon is ideal for beginner hunters or those who want to hunt down monsters quickly and efficiently.
Specializing in responsiveness, the Sword and Shield bolsters a quick and varied moveset where you can freely dodge and block attacks at a moment's notice.
The Sword and Shields having high elemental values were ranked high in the tier list. These weapons can deal significant damage and can quickly end a hunt.

Dual Blades are quick and deal plenty of damage if you can stay aggressive. Demon Mode makes Dual Blades powerful, but the stamina management aspect makes it trickier to master compared to other weapons.

Charge up and slay monsters with heavy blows with the Great Sword!
The Great Sword's charged attacks deal significant damage to monsters. However, monster attacks will stop you from charging up, making it harder to deal damage before the timer runs out. Using this weapon requires you to have advanced knowledge and experience in the game.

Unveil your expertise in combat by unleashing counterattacks against monsters with the Long Sword.
The Long Sword's reach is far enough to be safe against close-range attacks from monsters. The Foresight Slash will take some time to get used to, but this technique is a great way to quickly get back to dealing damage after evading.

The king of K.O. The Hammer destroys monsters before they get stunned from the heavy blunt damage it inflicts.
The Hammer does serious damage, and its Special Skill, Spinning Bludgeon, has a wide reach. However, using this weapon makes your movement slow, which opens you up to more monster attacks. This will affect the damage you can do within the time limit.

The Lance is a fairly safe weapon to use, thanks to its strong guarding ability, powerful counter-thrust, and simple damage loop involving triple thrusts. The Lance does take some getting used to, as the weapon can feel clunky for beginners who aren't familiar with all its options.

The Gunlance is a powerful weapon, with shell damage complementing the damage from its thrusts. However, its Lance-like mobility and difficulty of use may prove to be a challenge for fledgling Hunters.

The Charge Blade is a challenging weapon to master but can deal lots of damage when used well. Although it's powerful, some of its moves like the SAED have long animations that can cause you to run out of time if you're not careful.

Suppress monsters in long ranges with the Light Bowgun as you bombard them with varying ammo types. The Light Bowgun is a great long-ranged damage dealer. Take advantage of a monster's elemental weakness by crafting different Light Bowguns for every element!

Weave across the battlefield while showering monsters in a deadly rain of arrows! The Bow can deal consistent damage, but most of the time, it will require you to be closer to the monster than you usually would with ranged weapons. Learning to dodge and time your attacks will make the Bow deadly.

Take down monsters with heavy artillery as you use Heavy Bowguns. This type of weapon can carry powerful ammo, especially with its use of Wyvern and Cluster Bomb ammos. You'll be slower in movement compared to the Light Bowgun, but monsters will definitely feel the impact of your shots!

You can unlock weapons in Monster Hunter Now by progressing through the story quests. All hunters start with the Sword and Shield, while the rest of the weapons can be unlocked during Chapter 2.
If you are aiming to deal the most damage, the best way is to use an elemental weapon your target monster is weak to.
Elemental weapons paired with the proper elemental attack skill (e.g., Fire Attack) provide a great deal of bonus damage.
The damage you get from elemental attack skills far surpasses that from other raw attack-boosting skills at lower grades and can keep up with other skills, such as Critical Eye, later on.
Elements Guide: Elemental Damage Explained
Attack Boost vs. Elemental Attack Skill | |||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Skill Level | Attack Boost | Elemental Attack | |||||||
1 | +20 Attack | +50 Elemental Attack | |||||||
2 | +40 Attack | +100 Elemental Attack | |||||||
3 | +60 Attack | +200 Elemental Attack | |||||||
4 | +80 Attack | +350 Elemental Attack | |||||||
5 | +120 Attack | +500 Elemental Attack |
It is important to note that elemental damage does not work against monsters that are not weak to that element.
Therefore, you would have to forge and upgrade multiple weapons and armor for each weapon type and/or element, making these very resource-intensive.
As many materials from gathering points are shared across many weapons and armor as upgrade material, we do not recommend forging and crafting non-elemental weapons in the long run, unless you want to conserve materials and stick to a single weapon.
