Status Ailments are status effects that can be inflicted on both Hunters and monsters. If Hunters are the ones inflicted, these ailments cause a disadvantage during hunts, making the fight last longer.
Poison, Paralysis, and Sleep are the ailments in-game that have a corresponding elements to them, and are usually caused by large monster encounters such as Pukei-Pukei, Rathian, Great Girros, and Radobaan.
Stun is also a status ailment that hunters can inflict on monsters by dealing blunt damage to their heads. Getting hit multiple times in succession results the hunter into getting Stunned.
Status Ailment | Effects |
---|---|
Poison | Saps health away by a certain amount. |
Paralyze | Completely disables the inflicted target for a short amount of time. |
Sleep | Causes the target to enter a deep slumber. The next hit dealt to sleeping monsters gain bonus damage. |
Stun | Dazes the target, causing them to temporarily stop in their tracks as they struggle to recover. |
Stun monsters and get an opening by hitting their heads with blunt damage. Most weapons have access to blunt damage that can cause stun, such as the Sword and Shield's shield bashes, the Great Sword's tackles, or the Light Bowgun's sticky ammo.
The most effective weapon type for inflicting stuns is the Hammer, with all of its moves dealing blunt damage.
The Slugger skill increases the effectiveness of your blunt damage hits to cause stun.
Slugger Skill Effects
Inflicting Status Ailments on monsters requires Hunters to build up status damage with weapons that inflict Poison and Paralysis. Having skills like Poison Attack and Paralysis Attack make it easier to build up status damage making applying status faster, so consider equipping them during hunts!
There are skills that increase the build-up of the status ailments. Having more points to these skills makes you inflict status ailments faster, and possibly have you inflict status ailments in a hunt multiple times.
Skill | Description |
---|---|
Paralysis Attack | Increases weapon's paralysis buildup. |
Poison Attack | Increases weapon's poison buildup value. |
Sleep Attack | Increases weapon's sleep buildup. |
Slugger | Increases stun power. |
When inflicted with Poison, if your HP is below 50% heal up using First-Aid Med. Conveniently, the game prioritizes using First-Aid Meds that are available first before queueing up Potions, so make sure to heal up when the health gauge hits below 50%!
Hunters get inflicted with Paralysis by large monsters like Great Girros during encounters. Getting paralyzed equates to losing a significant amount of hunting time, so save runs by pulling off Perfect Dodges, breaking monster parts, and land multiple hits on a monster's weak spot to immobilize them instead.
If a status ailment is making you struggle on a challenging fight, you may consider having skills that grant you resistance, or even immunity, to a status ailment. You can have these skills as you practice and learn how to dodge the attacks of a specific monster.

---|---|
Paralysis Resistance | Grants a chance to prevent paralysis status/prevents paralysis. |
Poison Resistance | Grants a chance to prevent poison status/prevents poisoning. |
