Elemental Damage can help you deal more damage to monsters with specific elemental weaknesses in Monster Hunter Now. See how you can deal elemental damage and understand how it works while hunting.
List of Contents
Elemental damage refers to the additional damage that certain weapons or attacks can deal based on their elemental attributes. It's an effective method for defeating large monsters of higher star levels, especially when targeting their weak spots.
You can obtain elemental advantages against monsters by forging and using weapons with elemental attributes, such as Jagras Edge and Aqua Arrow.
Weapon Controls and Combat Tips
Weapons with attributes that inflict status conditions, like the Blooming Knife, do not deal extra damage with each hit. Instead, you'll need to build up attacks to inflict the status condition on the monster during your hunt.
Each monster you encounter will have a threshold that you need to meet to apply the status condition. So when using these weapons, hit the monsters as many times as possible, as not all hits will cause status buildup. Unlike elemental weaknesses, status can be used against any monster. Monsters weak to a status are more likely to be inflicted with the status ailment.
Elemental Damage is a simple damage system that adds bonus damage to a monster weak against the elemental attribute of your equipped weapon. It is calculated by adding the elemental damage to the raw damage of each of your attacks with every hit, making it easier for you to take down monsters that would otherwise be hard to defeat when only targeting their weak spots.
This means elemental weapons will always be deal more damage compared to equivalent raw weapons as long as the monster is weak to that element. However, using elemental weapons against monsters without a weakness to it will make them far weaker.
Elemental Damage can also influence the damage output of your critical hits. So if you want to deal more damage, make sure to equip armor pieces with Critical Eye to increase the chances of you landing critical hits.
Critical Eye skill boosts your affinity to a certain percentage, allowing you to land critical hits without changing your elemental weapons to those with built-in affinity but no elemental attribute.
To check the elemental attribute and base damage of your weapon, simply tap on the weapon in the Equipment Menu to view these details. Additionally, you can enhance both the damage output and elemental damage by upgrading your weapons to higher levels and grades.

When on a hunt against small monsters, there's no need to worry about hitting their elemental weaknesses since they have none. Only consider the elemental weaknesses when fighting large monsters.
