Lock On allows you to target a specific monster's body part when using melee weapons in Monster Hunter Now. Read on to learn how to acquire the Lock On skill, how to use it, and to discover all the armor pieces you can equip to gain Lock On.
List of Contents
Using the Lock On skill allows you to focus on a monster's body part, which is a valuable strategy if you're aiming to exploit a weakness other than its elemental disadvantage. Follow the steps below to learn how to use Lock On before or during your hunts.
To use Lock-On, equip any armor pieces that provide this skill. The earliest armor piece that offers Lock On is the Kulu Headpiece. Promote it to Grade 2, and you'll obtain this skill immediately!
Once you have the Lock On skill, you will see a new icon at the bottom left of your screen. Press this to use the skill during your hunt. This will allow you to only target the specified body part of your choice.
After pressing the Lock On button, you can drag the pointer to any of the monster's body parts. If you're knowledgeable about body part weaknesses, you can target that specific part instead.
You can also target the heads of monsters to deal damage. Most monsters have their heads as their weakness. So, if you're unsure about their weakness, you can place a Lock On on their heads to make sure you deal damage during hunts.
When using Lock On, make sure to only use any melee weapon of your choice. This is to help you ensure that the skill will be available to use during hunts.
Any long ranged weapons such was bows and bowguns will deactivate Lock On. Be sure to only use melee weapons if you're planning to use Lock On on your next hunt.

The Kulu Headpiece is a recommended armor piece to forge as it can grant you the Lock On skill as soon as you complete Chapter 2. This is the earliest armor piece you can get in the game that can grant you this skill. Follow the steps below to learn how to forge this armor piece and get Lock On early in the game.
To begin, you'll need to forge a Kulu Headpiece. You can do this as early as the prologue, so be sure to forge one as soon as it becomes available!
Forging the Kulu Headpiece doesn't immediately grant you the Lock On skill. Instead, you'll need to reach Grade 2 first, which involves five stages of upgrading before you can unlock it.
For the first five stages, you'll only need Kulu-Ya-Ku Hide and Kulu-Ya-Ku Beak to upgrade. However, to overgrade the headpiece to Grade 2, you'll need Kuluyaku Hide, Monster Bone M and Kulu-Ya-Ku Plume to unlock Lock On.
Furthermore, reaching Chapter 2 of the main story is a requirement to unlock the skill. In this chapter, you'll also encounter 2-Star Kulu-Ya-Ku, which will drop the necessary items needed for upgrading the Kulu Headpiece. In this case, you will need a Kulu-Ya-Ku Plume to upgrade the headpiece as mentioned above.
Defeat a 2-Star Kulu-Ya-Ku to get the Kulu-Ya-Ku Plume. Once you have acquired this, proceed to overgrade your headpiece to Grade 2 to finally unlock the Lock On Skill.
