The Long Sword is an intermediate-level weapon that boasts counterattack capabilities to maintain aggressiveness.
The weapon also relies heavily on counterattacks so Hunters can stay their ground and dish damage even if the monster is attacking them. If you're into over-aggressive playstyle, then the Long Sword is for you.
The main reason why the Long Sword needs to be aggressive is because it needs to maintain a Spirit Gauge. The spirit gauge usually increases in charge when you execute certain moves, but it can be easily gained by counterattacking. Filling it up will eventually cause it to glow red, strengthening your attacks and allowing you to perform a Spirit Helm Breaker.
The skill gauge charge decreases when you get attacked though, so make sure to time those counterattack right!

One of the best counterattack moves that you can use against enemies. Successfully executing this move will fill up the spirit gauge slightly, getting you closer to red spirit gauge (70% gauge) faster.

① Long press during normal attack [Special Sheathe] ② Tap to execute a roundslash. No need to time it with the monster's attack. ③ Tap the screen again to execute the Helm Breaker. |
This is one of your greatest finishing moves with the Long Sword. Always try to do this move on red spirit gauge though to maximize damage!
To maximize damage dealt, it is essential to stick and keep hitting enemy weakpoints throughout the hunt. The Lock On skill can help target these spots. You can either time your attacks, or counterattack whenever the opportunity presents itself!
Like in the main games, counterattack is the name of the game with the Long Sword. To maintain high aggression and dish out insane DPS, it is important to counterattack rather than dodge!
Whenever you use the Long Sword, your primary goal is to maintain a red spirit gauge. This increases the overall damage you deal, making for a faster and more efficient hunt!
You can achieve a red spirit gauge whenever you fill up the meter to 70% and the gauge charge decreases whenever you get hit. Certain moves and counterattacks increases your spirit gauge charge, making you achieve 70% meter charge faster!

The Hunter is invincible while using their SP Skill, so make use of it while the enemy is attacking. This is a really long invincibility frame so make use of it.
The ability to use the Long Sword is unlocked once you finish Chapter 2, Part 3 and starting Chapter 3. Depending on how many users are in your area, this could translate to about 3.5 hours of play time outside.
