Diablos is weak to the Ice element, so use Legiana weapons when possible to hunt it. It's also vulnerable to paralysis, so Great Girros weapons are also a viable alternative. Equip a build that supports this weapon type to help you take down the Horned Wyvern!
Best Builds and Armor for Each Weapons
Diablos will usually perform its tackle move when you're positioned on the side. This move has a wide range, so we recommend attacking it from the front. Blunt weapons such as the Hammer are particularly effective at hitting its head and horns. Bow and Light Bowgun hunters should aim for its wings.
When Diablos charges, evade to the left or right. You can time this right to perform a Perfect Dodge, which allows you to execute another move. Slashing weapons should go after the tail during the opening.
Diablos' tackle move has a long windup, so be sure to roll away before getting hit.
As soon as Diablos burrows, roll away at least two times to avoid getting hit when it emerges underground. This should place Diablos right in front of you so you can immediately attack once it emerges.
Diablos will tail swing twice, so we recommend dodging to the right to not only avoid the next second one, but also create an opening to attack.
Diablos can get stuck on the ground if you manage to stun or stagger it while it's digging down. Use this opportunity to deal lots of damage to it while it's vulnerable!
