To unlock ScareScraper, you need to complete the A-4 Visual Tricks mission. This is the fourth mission that you will get at the Gloomy Manor.
After clearing the level, you will get a notice that you have unlocked ScareScraper mode, which you can select in one of the screens while in the Bunker.
You can play multiplayer either locally or online. Local play requires having other players in the same room with their own copy of Luigi's Mansion 2 HD on their own consoles.
If you want to play with people from far away via online connection, you need to be subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online.
If you want to try it out, Nintendo offers a 7-day free trial of Nintendo Switch Online in the Nintendo eShop.
Hunter Mode in the ScareScraper is the standard ghost-hunting gameplay where players must roam around the map to capture ghosts.
The key difference is that players only have five minutes to capture every ghost on a single floor to advance, so everyone must quickly hunt for ghosts as fast as they can before the time runs out.
Rush Mode is similar to an escape room of sorts, where all Luigis must find the exit before time runs out. Players can search for objects to get timepieces or capture all ghosts inside a room to extend the time limit by 10 seconds.
To exit a floor and advance, all Luigis must stand on a switch to open the hatch, which means that all players must meet with each other near the exit before they can progress.
In Polterpup Mode, players must use their Dark-Light Device to follow Polterpup tracks, find them inside objects, and capture the pesky puppers to advance through the level.
A player must first find the Polterpups' kennel inside a room before they can disperse around the floor.
Surprise Mode is a combination of all three modes, and serves as the remix of all gameplay types in the ScareScraper.
Players will encounter two Hunter Mode floors, one Rush Mode floor, and one Polterpup Mode floor before battling a boss on the fifth floor.
Completing all three previous modes at least once will unlock Surprise Mode. This mode can be unlocked even by playing on the least number of floors per mode, which is five floors.

You can find wardrobes throughout the ScareScraper's floors, which you can use to quickly reach other rooms or go back to a previous one.
You can use these to teleport across the map to save time or help a fellow Luigi.
While scouring through objects inside a room, you may find melons or pumpkins. You can use your Poltergust to suck and launch these on a wall to get hearts and heal Luigi.
Just like in the Dark Moon story mode, Luigi can get equipment upgrades as he collects treasure and loot in the ScareScraper.
The treasure and upgrades obtained by all players in ScareScraper mode are shared, so all Luigis should try to get as much loot per floor to quickly unlock upgrades, which will help the higher they go.
Do note that upgrades are tied per ScareScraper session and do not persist in future sessions, as they are not permanent unlocks for all players, unlike in the story mode.
How to Get Treasure (Money) Fast
When playing with other Luigis, try to help them whenever they are trapped or revive them when they get knocked out, as you'd want all Luigis in a session to be actively working on the goal.
The ScareScraper will get more challenging the higher you go, especially on higher difficulties, and it will help that all Luigis present are alive and well.
Whenever a floor is completed, a Red Coin Scramble will start, where Luigi must find all four red coins that are randomly placed across the map.
If all four red coins are obtained, a roulette will determine which power-up and Luigi will get a boost for the next floor. A player who will get more red coins during the scramble will have better chances of getting a power-up.
If you are playing solo, you are guaranteed a random power-up for the next round, as you will be the only person in the roulette.
There are a few traps that await on ScareScraper floors, such as carpet and vases that can trap Luigi or curses that reverse controls. Any affected player can be freed from these traps and curses with the help of another player.
Do note that these are only present in multiplayer ScareScraper runs and will not appear if you are doing a solo run.

How to Remove Them
ScareScraper is Luigi's Mansion 2's multiplayer mode, where multiple Luigis are tasked with hunting for ghosts inside an eerie skyscraper and making their way to the top.
ScareScraper offers multiple gameplay modes, each with distinct goals that Luigi must clear per floor in order to go up and progress.
When playing with other people, the three other Luigis will have different outfit colors. The color is determined by the players position in a session.
All Luigi Costumes and Outfits
The ScareScraper is designed to be played by multiple people but can be played by one person with minimal gameplay changes.
Do note that this game mode may get more challenging for a single Luigi if you play at harder difficulties, as those require multiple players cooperating.
Can You Beat ScareScraper Solo?
You can change the length of a ScareScraper session by changing the number of floors that you need to clear to complete a run. You can choose between 5, 10, or 25 floors, where you will face tougher ghost as you reach higher floors.
There are also three difficulties to choose from, which are Normal, Hard, and Expert. In higher difficulties, tougher ghosts with higher HP will show up on earlier floors, and you'll deal with more of them which can make solo play harder.
ScareScraper Difficulty Differences
ScareScraper has an unlockable Endless difficulty for all game modes, which you can select if you complete a 25-floor run.
Here, your highest floor reached is recorded instead of the time it took for you to complete a run.
The ScareScraper contains exclusive ghosts and bosses that you will not encounter in the Dark Moon story mode.
If you want to achieve 100% game completion and capture all ghosts for your Ghost Canister in the vault, you need to play through the ScareScraper and get all the ghosts that only appear here.
Luigi will go against a ghost boss for every five floors cleared in the ScareScraper. These bosses are exclusive in this mode, do not appear during the game's story, and need to be captured if you want to complete your vault collection.
The ScareScraper also has a unique final boss found on the top floor of the skyscraper, whom you will battle every time you reach the top.
You will not face a unique ghost boss if you only do five floor runs, as you will only encounter the ScareScraper boss itself.
If you want to capture the ScareScraper's unique ghost bosses, you need to do 10 floor runs or more.
