How to Catch Ghosts

Stun Them With the Strobulb

Luigi

Use your Strobulb in front of a ghost to stun and scare them, making it easier to vacuum them up. After being blinded by the Strobulb, ghosts have a tendency to run away, so you won't have to worry about them attacking you until the effects wear off.

You can charge the Strobulb by holding the A button in order to stun multiple ghosts at a time.

Watch Out for Ghosts Wearing Sunglasses

Luigi

Ghosts that are wearing sunglasses or goggles will be protected from your Strobulb's flash. Make sure to vacuum their eyewear first before using the Strobulb on the ghost in order to have any effect.

Other ghosts may also hold various objects that can block the Strobulb. Try to get rid of these items or use them to your advantage when stunning the ghosts.

Vacuum the Ghost

Luigi

Once the ghost or ghosts you want to catch have been stunned, it's time to vacuum them up! Use ZR to vacuum the ghosts, and pull them in towards Luigi using the left control stick. This will drain the ghosts' health until they reach zero and get captured.

Be careful! If you don't pull the ghost properly, Luigi may end up getting pulled by the ghost instead.

Fill the Power Gauge

As you pull the ghosts, the Power Gauge gets filled. Filling the Power Gauge and pressing A or the right stick allows you to gain a surge of power, helping you lower the ghost's HP quickly.

Catching a ghost using the Power Gauge also allows you to earn some gold. The amount you earn depends on the Power Gauge level you used to pull the ghost in.

The Power Gauge can be upgraded by collecting treasure. You can upgrade it to level 2 by reaching 2,000G in the vault, and level 3 by getting a total of 7,000G in the vault.

Dodge Attacks Using B

Ghosts that are no longer stunned may attack Luigi. You can press the B button while pulling a ghost to dodge attacks. However, this deplete's Luigi's Power Gauge.

Take note that you must be vacuuming a ghost in order to do the dodge action. Pressing B without having a ghost struggling towards your vacuum will only cause Luigi to either look down or run.

When dealing with multiple enemies, try to stun them all with a charged Strobulb, so that you won't have to worry too much about their attacks.
