E-4 Ambush Maneuver Objectives

Ambush King Boo, and rescue Mario

Once you regain control in the Train Exhibit, use the Dark-Light Device to reveal the missing train. Collect the Spirit Balls, to reveal the Boo and trigger a cutscene. Afterwards, defeat the Big Boo to complete this mission.

How to Beat Big Boo

After the cutscene ends, you are now faced with a Big Boo. This Boo will not attack while you are facing it. When it flies up to the sky, it is preparing to slam into ground as an attack. You can quickly evade this by moving out of the way. This attack slams three times, so be quick on your feet.

Slam Attack

After three slams, Big Boo will be left stunned. While stunned, latch onto its tongue with the Poltergust. Pull on its tongue to send it towards the circling train. This counterattack only counts if you manage to throw the Boo into the spinning drill head of the train. This will take some practice and timing for it to work.

When the attack is effective, the Big Boo will split into several smaller Boos. The train cages will open their lids to reveal a target. You must launch the smaller boos unto the cages by pulling on their tongues. You will only have a limited time before the Boos regroup, so be quick and launch as many as you can.

When the Boos finally recover, they will vanish. Use the Dark-Light Device to reveal their locations. Once stunned, latch onto their tongues again to launch them into the cages.

Charge Attack

When the Boos fully regroup, they transform into Big Boo again. When you see Big Boo sinking to the floor, it's preparing its Charge Attack. Bait the Big Boo into charging directly into the train then dodge at the last moment.

Hitting the cages stuns the Boo, giving you an opening to latch onto its tongue and send it flying towards the drill. If you are lucky and manage to make the Big Boo hit the drill itself, then the smaller Boos will scatter automatically.

As the battle progress, the smaller Boos will recover faster. When there is only 1 Boo left, Big Boo will no longer spawn. Instead, this last Boo must be stunned before it can attack using the Dark-Light Device to reveal its most recent path.

You must launch all 10 smaller Boos into the cages to defeat Big Boo and complete the mission.

Big Boo Location

Enter the train exhibit and use the Dark-Light Device on the north side, where the train engine originally was. Suck up all the spirit balls to reveal the Boo.
