In order to shoot spike ball plants, you first have to vacuum one up. Hold ZR to vacuum up a spike ball, which should then lodge itself onto the opening of your Poltergust.

Aim at what you want to shoot at using the control sticks, then use ZL to blow out the spike ball.

Spike ball plants can be found in the Haunted Towers mansion. These are plants that produce spiky balls that can be used as projectiles when vacuumed up and blown out.

The first spike ball plants you may see in the game can be found in the garden just outside the pinwheel gate of the Haunted Towers.

Luigi
Spike balls can be used as weapons against non-ghost enemies, since they can deal damage when shot out. They're particularly good to use against flytraps, since these enemies are immune to the Strobulb's flash.
