Press and Hold the B Button

In order to make Luigi run, simply press and hold the B button while moving with the left control stick. Take note that the B button also serves as the button control for the look down action, but this shouldn't hinder your ability to run.

When Can You Start Running?

After Entering the Gate of the First Mission

During the beginning of the very first mission in the game, A-1: Poltergust 5000, Luigi will only be able to move slowly in a terrified state until he enters the gate of the Gloomy Manor and receives a call from Professor E. Gadd.

E. Gadd will tell Luigi to loosen up a bit and mention the controls for running. After ending the call, Luigi should then be able to run for the rest of the game.

You Can Also Run on Tightropes

It's possible to move quickly when crossing tightropes or narrow bridges by pressing the B button. However, running on tightropes is more likely to cause Luigi to be off-balanced.
