In Polterpup Mode, you won't immediately look for the rowdy puppers, as you first need to find their kennels.
The Polterpups' kennels are invisible to Luigi, so you need to shine your Dark-Light Device on them to reveal them and free the Polterpups. These are usually located near your starting area, but they may also spawn far away from the initial room.
At the beginning and on earlier floors, it can be beneficial to split up with your teammates while looking for the kennel or when following Polterpup tracks.
It will be a lot quicker if everyone in the session is following their own Polterpup to cover the entire floor, compared to everyone being clumped up together.
Once Big Polterpups start appearing, you can start pairing up with another Luigi as Big Polterpups are hard to capture alone due having more health.
If you spot a Big Polterpup while scouring at objects in a room, you can call in for help so another player can assist you.
Much like in the story mode, Luigi can get equipment upgrades as he gets more loot. All players' treasures are pooled together, so everyone will benefit from unlocking an upgrade.
With that, players should get as much treasure as possible to unlock upgrades as they climb higher floors. Dark-Light upgrades are useful in Polterpup Mode, as you can use your device for longer while following Polterpup tracks.
How to Get Treasure (Money) Fast
Treasure Collected | Upgrade |
---|---|
250 G | Level 2 Poltergust |
750 G | Level 2 Dark-Light |
1,600 G | Level 2 Suction |
2,500 G | Level 3 Poltergust |
4,500 G | Level 3 Dark-Light |
6,500 G | Level 3 Suction |
7,500 G | Heart Drop |
Luigi will get Heart Drops at 7,500 G and above.
Luigi can get useful upgrades as he collects a set amount of treasure while ascending the ScareScraper in Polterpup Mode. The first six upgrades improve his equipment, while the rest are heart drops that heal Luigi.
The Map is the best power-up to get in Polterpup Mode as it reveals all Polterpup locations on your map, eliminating the need to go around the floor and search for them.
If you have the map, you can simply head towards the rooms indicated in your map and get all the Polterpups.
The Dark-Light Glasses highlight all hidden objects inside a room, including Polterpup tracks. If you have this item, it will be easier to locate where the Polterpups are hiding, as you won't need to constantly flash your Dark-Light Device as you can simply follow the highlighted tracks.
The Poltergust upgrades can also be useful in Polterpup Mode, as these will make capturing Polterpups and Big Polterpup easier.
In Polterpup Mode, your main goal per floor is to find the Polterpups' kennel to lure them out, follow their paw print tracks, and capture them out of the objects they are hiding in.
On every floor, you have five minutes to find all Polterpups, which range from two on earlier floors to up to five on higher floors.
You will also encounter regular ghosts who will try to slow you down, so make sure to deal with them as well!
You can change a few settings to make a Polterpup Mode session longer or more difficult.
Like other ScareScraper modes, you can take on the Polterpup Mode on either 5, 10, or 25 floors, with an Endless option available after completing a 25-floor run.
You can also play at Normal, Hard, or Expert difficulty, with the harder difficulties requiring you to find more Polterpups per floor.
