Difficulty | Details |

Normal | ・Ideal for solo players or for a group of inexperienced players looking to practice. ・Encounter the standard number of ghosts in Hunter Mode, and tougher ghosts will appear late in the climb. ・Standard number of ghosts will appear in Rush Mode, and Gobbers will only appear later in the climb. ・Look for only two-three Polterpups in Polterpup Mode, and will only increase later in the climb. |
Hard | ・Recommended for two or three players, but you can fly solo if you think you've got the skills. ・Ghosts with weapons will appear after a few floors in Hunter Mode, and more ghosts with high HP will appear in the middle of a run. ・More ghosts will appear in Rush Mode to try and stop you from searching for items and more Gobbers may appear as you climb. ・Compared to normal, more Polterpups need to be located on the initial floors of Polterpup Mode. |
Expert | ・Ideal for four experienced players. Virtually impossible on your own, but do you have the guts to try it tandem? ・Almost all ghosts will have weapons in Hunter Mode, and their Strong variants, along with tougher bosses, will appear much earlier in the run. ・Even more ghosts will spawn in Rush Mode and multiple Gobbers may appear even on the first floor of a run. ・A Polterpup Mode run will start with the goal of finding five Polterpups and will increase as you climb. |
When playing in Endless Mode, floors will get more difficult as you climb up during your run.
It is not recommended to try and take on Endless alone, as the initial part of a run is similar to playing Hard or Expert and will only get more difficult if you do manage to progress.
If you want to do a solo run of the ScareScraper, the Normal difficulty is the best one to choose as it provides the most balanced gameplay for one player.
In Normal, ghosts will get tougher later on, but you will not be lagging behind as you'll also get upgrades to make Luigi more effective as you climb up and get treasure.
If you are playing with other players who already know how ScareScraper modes work, then you can opt to choose Expert and take on the challenge of completing a 25-floor Expert run.
Do note that communication is almost necessary here, as one of you will likely need help from a nearby Luigi to be free from traps or defeat tough ghosts.
