After every mission, you'll receive a report on how you did. This report contains your clear time, the number of ghosts you captured, the amount of health lost, and all of the treasures you've earned in the mission.
Each of these affect the rank you receive, with 3 stars being the highest rank you can get for a mission.
Ranking System Explained: How to Get 3-Stars
Luigi's Mansion 2 HD uses autosaves in order to save game progress, both on the Dark Moon quest mode and the multiplayer ScareScraper mode.
Save data can be deleted from the menu upon starting up the game.

In addition to these basic controls, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD also uses motion controls in certain segments such as when crossing tightropes and aiming.
The ScareScraper Mode also makes use of the D-Pad buttons to help with player communication.
Control Schemes Explained: Are There Motion Controls?
Small webs can easily be removed by vacuuming them using the Poltergust. The larger webs in Gloomy Manor can be burned during mission A-5.
Pressing ZL blows air from your vacuum cleaner instead of sucking air in. This allows it to effectively remove anything that could have gotten stuck onto your Poltergust. It can also be used in more creative ways.
Spike ball plants can be vacuumed using ZR. Then, once it's stuck onto your Poltergust, aim at whatever you want to hit, then use ZL to shoot the spike ball onto your target.
This is an effective way to beat flytraps, which are immune to the Strobulb's flash.
How to Shoot Spike Ball Plants
Blowing air from the Poltergust can also be used to inflate balloons when you try to vacuum a special plant.
You can cross tightropes by balancing Luigi using motion controls and moving him forward using the left stick. If that proves to be too tricky, you can place your console or controller onto a flat surface and use the left control stick to balance Luigi instead.
How to Cross Tight Ropes and Narrow Bridges
When there are at least two parallel tightropes or narrow beams, Luigi can jump between them with a flick of the right control stick.
Once Luigi's health has been depleted, he can heal by collecting hearts that can be randomly obtained from his surroundings or from defeating enemy ghosts.
