Unlock Condition Obtain Auto Crossbow, and complete "Cid Sophiar, Master Mechanic" sidequest.

A Better Valiant Clear Conditions and Rewards

Clear Condition Collect an Earth Gemstone and deliver it to Cid to upgrade the weapon.

How to Complete A Better Valiant

Get the Valiant

First, you need to complete Living off the Land sidequest so you can learn how to tend a garden. Once done, proceed on growing and harvesting Caem Carrots (x4).

The harvest time will take some time; you can rest at the Hidden Getaway while you wait. Then, trade the harvested Caem Carrots (x4) with Tony to get the Valiant.

Talk to Cid

Speak with Cid. He will help you upgrade your weapon, but you need to find the item that he is asking.

Find the Earth Gemstone

After obtaining the Valiant, go to Hammerhead and show it to Cid. He will then agree to upgrade it in exchange for Earth Gemstone. It is a common treasure. Check your inventory; you may already found one.

In case you didn't, travel to Malmalam Thicket - Lighting Deposit. Once arrived, jump over the fences and walk towards the river. You can find the stone at the ground sparkling near a big rock.

Upgrade to Valiant II

Talk to Cid by returning to Hammerhead. Hand over the Earth Gemstone to upgrade the Valiant. Upgrading this weapon will take some time; wait for a few minutes, or go hunting. Talk to Cid again to complete this sidequest.
