The Royal Burst is the best Normal-Shelled Gunlance pre-Iceborne Expansion. Hosting 437 base attack, 15% affinity, and high Poison rating, this Gunlance performs amazingly well against most monsters.

Hunters are advised to use Shell Bursts to maximize its level four Normal Shells.

Kjarr Buster Bomber

Kjarr Buster Bomber is considered as the best Wide-Shelled Gunlance pre-Iceborne Expansion. Hunters who love the Poke-Shell playstyle and high Wyvernfire Blast damage should definitely have this Gunlance in their arsenal.

As if the 330 Blast rating wasn't enough, Kjarr Buster Bomber has the Critical Status Skill. This makes it easier for blast procs to occur via its lance attacks, taking the Gunlance's overall damage to a whole new level.

The Insatiable Gunlance made its way to the top of the pre-Iceborn Expansion Gunlance heirarchy with its unique strength. Hunters who prefer using the Slap-lance playstyle with no shelling will find this Gunlance the best one to use!

Hosting an insane 529 base attack, a dragon rating of 240, and high elderseal, the potential of this Gunlance boosted it to the top if built around properly. It is definitely worthy of its place in this list.

Best Gunlance: MHW Iceborne

Deciding which Gunlance was the best to use in MHW Iceborne heavily depended on three factors: shelling type, shelling level, and target monster. With these in mind, two Gunlances share the top spot and are definite must-haves in MHW Iceborne.

True Fatalis Gunlance

The True Fatalis Gunlance is THE Gunlance for all the hunter's Slap-lancing needs. Hosting a Normal Lv7 shelling type, 897 base attack, naturally purple sharpness, and two level four slots, the True Fatalis Gunlance usurped the Alatreon Melt at the top of Normal-shelled Gunlances upon its arrival.

Gunlances are unique weapons in that they do not mind a monster's elemental resistances during hunts. The bulk of their damage comes from shell attacks, which are non-elemental (The elemental damage are applied via lance attacks). This means that the True Fatalis Gunlance excels in almost every hunt.

Lightbreak Gunlance

The Lightbreak Gunlance is the King of Wide-Shelled Gunlances. This Gunlance caters to hunters who prefer poke-shell combos, charged shelling, high-damage wyvernfire blasts, and high wymstake cannon damage.

While it may be inferior to the True Fatalis Gunlance in terms of base attack and slightly inferior in terms of slots, the variety of playstyle options the Lightbreak Gunlance brings earns it a place beside the True Fatalis Gunlance atop the Gunlance heirarchy.
