Callisto Protocol - Perfect Dodge Guide

Executing a perfect dodge will slow down time and allow Jacob to get a free counter attack in the Callisto Protocol. Read on to learn more about the perfect dodge mechanic including how to do a perfect dodge, tips for getting it right consistently, and to find out if it's worth it during combat.

How to Do a Perfect Dodge

Wait for the Enemy to Go for a Swing

Callisto Protocol - Wait For Swing

In order to complete a Perfect Dodge, players will need to wait for the enemy to attack. The timing will be very precise, so make sure you're paying attention to the enemy as it takes its first swing at you.

Tap Left or Right as the Swing is About to Connect

As the hit is about to connect, tap left or right to initiate a perfect dodge. Keep in mind, you should not be holding down in a single direction or moving backwards. You will need to tap in either direction to pull off a perfect dodge.

The timing of the dodge relies on you being able to press and release left or right at the very last second of the enemy's swing. If you mistime the dodge, you will get hit.

Melee or Use Quick Shot to Follow Up the Perfect Dodge

You will know if you did a perfect dodge if Jacob enters a slow mo sequence during the dodge. Any dodge that doesn't result in a slow mo is simply a normal dodge. Once the slow mo effect start, follow up with either a melee attack of your own or a Quick Shot using your guns.

Always make sure to follow up with a melee hit or a Quick Shot. If you are too late to follow up (or if you decide you want to dodge again), you have a high chance of getting hit since the slow mo will end in no time at all.

Tips for Getting a Perfect Dodge

Only Attempt it During 1v1s

Callisto Protocol - 1v1

There isn't really any room for this technique when getting mobbed by multiple enemies since a single mistep will result in you taking multiple hits. It is usually better to back off and use the GRP or your guns to thin out the horde before attempting a perfect dodge. Due to how difficult it is to time, this is only ever viable when in a 1v1 with an infected.

Adjust the Camera to See the Enemy Animation

Callisto Protocol - Pay Attention to Camera Distance

The camera in the Callisto Protocol is a bit finicky to handle, sometimes snapping to center over Jacob, preventing you from seeing the enemy's swing in its entirety. Make sure to adjust your camera to see the swing coming as this is integral to getting the timing right for a perfect dodge.

Perfect dodge five times.
How to Perfect Dodge

To get the trophy Float Like A Butterfly, players will need to successfully perform 5 perfect dodges. These are cumulative, which means you don't have to do them one after the other. This also means they add up even if you die and reset multiple times. In this regard, it is worth doing at least five if you are going for 100% completion.

Not Worth it On Higher Difficulties

Callisto Protocol - Perfect Dodges Are Not Worth It

While it seems like a high risk, high reward maneuver, attempting perfect dodges is more of an unecessary risk at higher difficulties. After all, there's no reason to risk a hit for a flashy counter attack if dodging normally is so much easier and safer. If you are playing on Maximum Security or the future Contagion Mode, try not to actively go for perfect dodges as it will usually result in death.
