In a recent interview with The Callisto Protocol director Glen Schofield, he stated that the main story can be completed in 12-14 hours. This is around the same gameplay length as Dead Space - Visceral Games' earlier space horror survival game.

Can be Stretched Out to 20 Hours When Playing on Maximum Security

Encounter Extra Enemies

Players who decide to tackle the game on Maximum Security (hardest difficulty) will probably have to extend their estimated playtime to 20 hours. This is due to the fact that you play with more penalties on Maximum Security such as increased damage taken and tankier enemies. Expect to die often while learning enemy spawns and how to beat certain bosses.

With little to no backtracking to previous sections of Black Iron, the game sacrifices very little time to optional exploration. While there may be the occasional branching path that offers loot at the end, majority of your playthrough will be spent advancing the main story. Despite mentions during pre-release of the addition of Beta Paths, the Callisto Protocol's main story is fairly linear. As of writing, there are no confirmed alternate endings to the game, so rest assured that once you finish it, you will no longer need to replay the horrors of the Outbreak to access hidden content.
