All Shiv Upgrades
Cannot be Upgraded at a Reforge Station
Unfortunately, there are no upgrades available for the Shiv. It will simply function as an Alt Melee weapon for stealth kills and a tool for opening consoles & chests.
How to Get the Shiv
Speak to Elias For the First Time
During the opening stages of Outbreak, players will meet Elias - a fellow convict with a plan to escape Black Iron Prison. Speak to him and he will enlist your help, handing you the Shiv in the process.

Unlocks the Desperate Times Achievement
Obtaining the Shiv will also give you the Desperate Times achievement. This is one of the easier ones to get as it is tied to the main story's progress.

Used to Unlock Consoles & Chests
The Shiv is a handy tool for navigating the horrifying hallways of Black Iron Prison. Use it to interact with door consoles and unlock sealed doors, or use it to unlock chests with valuable loot inside.
Can be Used for Stealth Quick Kills
Alternatively, players can use the Shiv for Quick Kills while sneaking up on unaware enemies. To perform a Quick Kill, approach the enemy from behind while crouched (CTRL on PC), before hitting the interact button (E on PC) to execute them.
