On October 27, 2022, The Callisto Protocol's official Japanese Twitter account announced that the game would not be released in Japan.

This cancellation was due to the game not passing the standards of CERO, a Japanese content rating organization, and the developers' refusal to modify the game experience to fit the organization's standards and risk of not being able to meet players' expectations.
