The Assault Rifle Schematic can be be found during the very early stages of Chapter 7: Colony. To find it, players will first need to head to Midtown - the 2nd level of the colony where you reunite with Dani.
Chapter 7: Colony Walkthrough and Data Bios Locations
WARNING: Multiple blind infected will be patrolling the area. Deal with them quickly or quietly while on your way to the bathroom to make exploration easier.
1 | The Assault Rifle Schematic can be found in the area with a watchtower. As soon as you see it in the distance, you will know that the schematic is somehwere nearby. |
---|---|
2 | Make your way to the lower levels and head for the gated Lowtown Elevator Controls area. You will need to clear out the enemies here to safely navigate to the ladder that takes you up to Midtown. |
3 | Upon reaching the Lowtown Elevator Controls, look to your right and go up the ladder with a sign that says Midtown next to it. |
4 | Once up the ladder, turn around and head towards the large red structure marked as the General Store. Go through it and exit through the back. |
5 | After exiting, the bathroom should be around the corner (to your left as you exit). |
6 | Go inside the bathroom and you should be able to pick up the Assault Rifle Schematic on the shelf above the sink. Be warned, picking up the schematic will alert an enemy that grapples you from behind. |
7 | With the schematic secure, simply take it to a Reforge Station to unlock the Assault Rifle for purchase. Printing it will cost 1000 Callisto Credits. |
If you miss picking up the schematic for the Assault Rifle, don't worry. It will reappear in a later area of Chapter 7: Colony and during Chapter 8: Tower. Check out the list below for each new spawn location of the Assault Rifle Schematic.
Alternate Schematic Locations |
---|
Chapter 7: Colony ・Can be found again at the end of Colony. It will be in the room where Dani and Jacob see the infected state of the SHU. |
Chapter 8: Tower ・Can be found inside Access Hall M150. |
It is not possible to backtrack after reaching certain points of each chapter. Make sure you hit at least one of these locations if you want to unlock the Assault Rifle for purchase.
Weapon Upgrade | Pre-Requisite | Credits Effect |
---|---|---|
High Capacity Magazine Upgrade | None | 500 Credits Increases the ammo capacity of the Assault Rifle. |
Magnum Rounds Damage Upgrade | High Capacity Magazine Upgrade | 1500 Credits Increases the damage of the Assault Rifle. |
Stability Upgrade | Magnum Rounds Damage Upgrade | 4500 Credits Reduces weapon recoil. |
TK63 "Homing Rounds" | Stability Upgrade | 4500 Credits Adds alt-fire module that fires smart ammunition. Fired rounds adjust themselves to hit moving targets. |
While the firepower and range offered by the Assault Rifle is tempting, the Callisto Protocol will usually have you fighting up close and in tight spaces that negate the advantages of the gun anyway. Being a late-game weapon whose print cost will set you back a cool 1000 Credits, it is better to just stick to upgrading your other weapons instead of getting this gun.
On higher difficulties, the Riot Gun will be infinitely better. Not only do you get it earlier (giving you more time to invest in upgrades), but it also works decently well when firing from range. Outside of future New Game+ runs, the Assault Rifle arrives too late into the story to be relevant.
Not only is the Assault Rifle an expensive weapon to print, its upgrade prices are also pretty steep especially when compared to how much you need to spend maxing out the Riot Gun. Again, this gun is best left to New Game+ runs once the mode releases on February 7, 2023.

Being one of the only burst-fire weapons in your arsenal (without the need for upgrades), the UJC Special Ops Assault Rifle stands out from the rest of your arsenal by excelling at long-range engagements while still dealing a significant amount of damage. However, due to its costly upgrades and rather late entry to the main story, it is a difficult investment for players who have already fully upgraded the Riot Gun.
With its powerful three-round burst, the Assault Rifle is perfect for taking out targets as they approach you. Unlike the majority of your guns so far, this is one of the few that works well before you engage anything in melee combat. Inflict limb damage or simply outright kill your enemies before they can close the distance.
If you unlock and purchase TK63 Homing Rounds upgrade, using the Alt Fire button (Middle Mouse on PC) will have you firing bullets that track and hit moving enemies. If a fight gets particularly hectic or if you are being hit from afar by ranged enemies, you can fall back on the Alt Fire module to buy some breathing room.
