While it was formerly part of the PUBG timeline, Striking Distance Studios CEO Glen Schofield confirmed on May 27, 2022 that The Callisto Protocol no longer takes place in the PUBG Universe.

Despite being confirmed to be completely separate from PUBG, Glen Schofield also mentioned that the game will have "little surprises for fans," so The Callisto Protocol may have small nods or easter eggs referencing PUBG hidden throughout the game.
