The Callisto Protocol leans heavily towards melee-based combat. Due to this, your primary attack will always be a melee attack even after you secure guns. Hit your primary attack button to swing your weapon when fighting the infected.
Once you have access to ranged weapons or even the powerful GRP (Gravity Restraint Projector), you will need to aim before you can shoot. The Callisto Protocol has no hipfire options, so make sure to remember this especially when getting mobbed by multiple enemies.
Weapons in the Callisto Protocol will have Alt Fire modes that you can unlock via the Reforge Station. If you manage to purchase one of these upgrades, you will be able to hit the Alt Fire button (Middle Mouse on PC) to perform a more powerful attack at the expense of being a bit more vulnerable than you usually are.
Once you start building up an arsenal of new weapons, you will have to make a choice between which Primary and Sidearm you want to bring into combat. To swap out either type of gun for something else, head over to your Inventory, hover over the gun you want to equip, and hold the interact button (E on PC, A on Xbox, or X on Playstation) to equip it.
You will still be able to swap out your equipped weapons during combat. To do so, hit 2 on PC or the Right D-Pad on controller to bring up the Quick Swap Menu. Use the scroll wheel or the Up/Down D-Pad to cycle between weapons. Once you have your desired weapon selected, hit the A/X (controller) or RMB (PC) to equip it.
Note: Quick Swapping your equipped weapon will have Jacob start disassembling and assembling it into your selected one. This creates a short delay before you can ready your weapon to fire again.
Once you get access to your first Primary weapon, the option to Swap Weapons will become available. Do not confuse this with changing equipped guns as the Swap Button (1 on PC and Left D-Pad on controller) can only be used to cycle between your equipped primary and secondary weapons.
Gun Controls Guide: How to Shoot, Reload, and Quick Shoot
To upgrade your hard earned weapons, players will need to head to a designated Reforge Station and spend credits on their chosen weapon's upgrade tree. Unlock upgrades that become progressively powerful as you fight to stay alive on the dead moon that is Callisto.
