Callisto Protocol How to Block Guide

You will face hordes of Biophages in The Callisto Protocol and sometimes dodging is not an option anymore. Read on to find out how to block enemy attacks and survive!

How to Block Enemy Attacks

Press and Hold Back to Block

How to Block
(Controller)
Press and hold the L Stick back to block just before an enemy attack lands.
How to Block
(Keyboard)
Press and hold the S key to block just before an enemy attack lands.

The controls above are the default mapping. The timing for a block is very forgiving, so you can hold the block button as much as you like. Be careful though, if you hold block too much, you could back yourself into a wall and have no escape route.

Auto-Dodge Prevents Blocking

Note that turning on the Auto-Dodge option in the Accessibility options prevents you from blocking. Remember to turn this option off if you want to block and use the blocking-related upgrades in the game.

Benefits of Blocking

Reduces Damage Taken

Blocking enemy attacks reduces the damage you take compared to receiving a clean hit. While dodging is still the preferred way to deal with enemy attacks, blocking can still be useful when you become cornered by multiple Biophages.

In addition, you can further mitigate the damage you receive when blocking by obtaining the Stun Baton's defensive upgrades.

How to Upgrade Weapons

Primes Jacob for a Counterattack

If you have enhanced the Stun Baton with the Blocking Counter Attack upgrade, blocking enemy attacks lets you retaliate with a counterattack that leaves them staggered for a short while.

This upgrade is especially useful when dealing with multiple Biophages, as it provides you with plenty of breathing room.
