Unlike the other weapons, the Riot Gun will be given to you after you help Dani Nakamura during the events of Lost. Once you have this powerful weapon secure, you should be able to tackle more powerful enemies with ease.

Being a shotgun, the Riot Gun naturally excels when used at close range, allowing you to demolish enemies that get too close with some buckshot to their craniums. On top of being an amazing Primary, the Riot Gun is also one of the best weapons for the boss fights in the Callisto Protocol.
Like it sidearm counterpart, the Riot Gun is amazing for easy dismembers. While you may want to conserve your ammo at higher difficulties, it still does well to take out a limb or two when in a pinch.
If you unlock and purchase the Explosive Rounds Upgrade for the Riot Gun, its Alt Fire becomes perfect for clearing out crowds of enemies. At the cost of using more ammo per shot, the Alt Fire mode will help you deal with multiple enemies if ever you find yourself getting mobbed.
