RF5 - Farm Dragon Guide

This is a guide to Farm Dragons in Rune Factory 5. Learn about whether Farm Dragons have permanent seasons and the differences between each Farm Dragon, how to give Crystals to Farm Dragons and the effects, how to unlock each Farm Dragon, and what you can do at a Farm Dragon.

Do Farm Dragons Have Seasons?

No Permanent Seasons on Farm Dragons

RF5 - Farm Dragons - No Season Differences
Unlike features in past Rune Factory entries, where fields were available which have the same season year-round, the Farm Dragons in Rune Factory 5 have no permanent seasons.

Just like the fields in Rigbarth, the fields on Farm Dragons are affected normally by the current season throughout the year.

Differences Between Farm Dragons

Crop Growth Rates are Identical

Test Results Comparing the Fire Dragon and Ice Dragon
Crop Growth Speed No difference
Soil HP No difference
Soil Health No difference
Number of Resulting Crops No difference
Overall Soil Lv No difference

Based on our team's tests between the Fire Dragon and the Ice Dragon, there are no apparent differences in the results of growing crops on specific Farm Dragons.

If you've found any differences between the crop growth for the different Farm Dragons, be sure to leave a comment and let us know your findings!

Crystal Costs Vary Between Dragons

The number of Crystals required for each bonus varies depending on the Farm Dragon.

Since all other aspects of growing are identical between the Dragons, it's best to choose the Dragon with the lowest cost each time you spend Crystals to get the best value for each.

Size of Initial Plots Vary Between Dragons

The sizes of the plots for growing crops on a Farm Dragon differs between each. The Farm Dragon with the largest initial plot size is the Ice Dragon with a 4x10 plot available from the onset.

Crystal Effects and How to Give Crystals

RF5 - Farm Dragon - Giving Crystals to a Farm Dragon

Gaia Crystal Will temporarily boost the soil's health and damage resistance.
Ignis Crystal Will temporarily boost crops' growth speed.
Glacies Crystal Will make it rain for a while.
Ventus Crystal Will increase crop yield.
Terra Crystal Makes more space available for planting crops.

Giving Crystals to Farm Dragons will help increase the quality of the soil and bestow a variety of other effects. To give a Crystal to a Farm Dragon, go in the direction of the Dragon's head on the minimap and find the yellow interaction indicator on the far end. Press A next to it to talk with the dragon and feed it Crystals.

Get Crystals from Exploring, Bosses, and Shops

Crystals can be found on the ground throughout the overworld, and Crystal Shards can be found dropped by Bosses. Also, once you expand the Crystalabra Crystal Shop, you'll be able to buy Crystals there for one Crystal per 50,000G.

There will be some times when you find a Crystal in the overworld which you cannot reach; in these cases, use the Spell Seal technique with the ZL Button to pull it closer to you.

Exchange Crystal Shards for Crystals at The Crystalabra

RF5 - Farm Dragon - Trading in Crystals
Five Crystal Shards of the same type can be exchanged for a single Crystal at The Crystalabra. Note that the five Shards must be the same type of crystal for this to work.

Use Terra Crystals to Increase Farm Size

You can use Terra Crystals to expand the farm on your Farm Dragons. The easiest way to obtain Terra Crystals is to farm Terra Crystal Fragments and trade them at The Crystalabra. Take note that crystal fragments are more easily obtained using spell seals!

Monsters Can Help With Chores

RF5 - Farm Dragons - Monster Companions

Once you've built a Monster Barn on a Farm Dragon via Studio Palmo, you'll be able to start taming Monsters. From there, once you've increased a Monster's friendship level to 3, you'll be able to ask a Monster companion to handle the chores for part of the Farm Dragon's field.

As you can assign a Monster to take care of the chores on the left, center, or right side, it's a good idea to get three Monsters up to level 3 on each Farm Dragon to maximize efficiency.

Monsters can be moved to another Farm Dragon

How to move a Monster
Build a Monster Barn on another Farm Dragon
Available via Studio Palmo
Add the Monster you want to move into your party
Go to the Farm Dragon you want to move the Monster to
Go into the Monster Barn
Talk to the Monster and select Send back to barn to complete the move
Cannot be done when there are already 4 Monsters in the barn

Once you've made friends with a Monster, you can move it to a different Farm Dragon to spread out chores more effectively. That said, in the early stages, you're better off keeping at least three Monsters who can do chores on the Earth Dragon to avoid spreading your resources too thin.
