Countermeasures against Yian Garuga

Recommended Weapon Element and Armor Skills

Recommended Weapon Element
Water Weapon Yian Garuga is weakest against water.
Blast Weapon Yian Garuga is also weak to blast, so if you have a better weapon that inflicts blast, feel free to bring that one instead.
Recommended Armor Skills
Evade Window Evade Window gives you extra invincibility frames, making it easier to dodge attacks.
Guard Instead of Evade Window, Guard will be more useful to have as a shield user.
Stun Resistance You might get hit a lot by Yian Garuga, especially when facing him for the first time. So Stun Resistance might be the difference between getting carted or not.
Health Boost Having more health is always a good thing!
Earplugs Yian Garuga has a big roar, so having Earplugs at Lvl 5 will be immensely helpful, especially against Yian Garuga's somersault attack.
Mind's Eye/Ballistics Yian Garuga's wings are tougher than the rest of his body, so your weapon will probably bounce off of it. Mind's Eye/Ballistics can help you attack his wings normally if ever you want to break them.
Free Meal If you find yourself running out of Antidote and Herbal Medicine (or maybe even Max and Ancient Potions) against Yian Garuga, you can get Free Meal, especially up to Lvl 3 if the secret levels are available.
Clutch Claw Boost Clutch Claw Boost is important for any hunter who uses lighter weapons, as it can make you tenderize in one go.

How to Beat Yian Garuga

Yian Garuga Somersault

How to Beat - Yian Garuga 1.png
Yian Garuga will always roar before performing his somersault attack. This will disable you for a few seconds making it impossible to dodge. You can easily counter this by maxing your Earplugs skill to level 5. This will nullify any weak and strong monster roars that can disable you.

Antidote and Herbal Medicine

Yuan Garuga can sometimes inflict you poison ailments if you manage to get hit by any of his attacks. It is recommended that you always carry an Antidote or a Herbal Medicine to cure it immediately.

Plunge Attack

How to Beat - Yian Garuga 2.png
Be careful of Yian Garuga's plunge attack. This attack deals the most damage out of his kit. Try to avoid this as much as possible to prevent yourself from carting during the hunt. Constantly move around and never stay in one spot when fighting against Yian Garuga especially when he is flying around.

Also, try to move away as far as you can since there will be a major ground tremor in a small area around the beak for a few seconds after the attack.

Avoiding the Fire Breath

How to Beat - Yian Garuga 3.png
It is recommended that you always move to Yian Garuga's sides when he is attacking. This will give you an opportunity to attack without having to worry about dodging. Yian Garuga's Fire Breath attacks take a long time to finish, this is your best chance to use your strongest skills to maximize your damage output.

Which Part to Aim For

The head and tail parts of Yian Garuga are his weaknesses. It is best that you focus on these parts and use your Clutch Claws to soften up these parts. However, if you want to break his wings for specific loot. You might want to use a weapon with a purple or higher sharpness because of its toughness.

Pitfall Traps

Using Pitfall Traps will not work against Yian Garuga when he is enraged. Try not to rely much on Pitfall Traps and use them only at the beginning of the hunt.
