Countermeasures against Scarred Yian Garuga

Recommended Weapon Element and Armor Skills

Recommended Weapon Element
Water Weapon Scarred Yian Garuga is weakest against water.
Blast Weapon Scarred Yian Garuga is also weak to blast, so if you have a better weapon that inflicts blast, feel free to bring that one instead.
Recommended Armor Skills
Evade Window Evade Window gives you extra invincibility frames, making it easier to dodge attacks.
Guard Instead of Evade Window, Guard will be more useful to have as a shield user.
Stun Resistance You might get hit a lot by Scarred Yian Garuga, especially when facing him for the first time (though it should be noted that his attacks patterns are the same as the normal variant). So Stun Resistance might be the difference between getting carted or not.
Windproof Scarred Yian Garuga can give you a lot of wind pressure, incapacitating you long enough to freely attack you. Getting Windproof to Lvl 5 will prevent this.
Health Boost Having more health is always a good thing!
Earplugs Scarred Yian Garuga has a big roar, so having Earplugs at Lvl 5 will be immensely helpful, especially against his somersault attack.
Mind's Eye/Ballistics Like the normal variant, Scarred Yian Garuga's wings are tougher than the rest of his body, so your weapon will probably bounce off of it. Mind's Eye/Ballistics can help you attack his wings normally if ever you want to break them.
Free Meal If you find yourself running out of Antidote and Herbal Medicine (or maybe even Max and Ancient Potions) against Scarred Yian Garuga, you can get Free Meal, especially up to Lvl 3 if the secret levels are available.
Clutch Claw Boost Clutch Claw Boost is important for any hunter who uses lighter weapons, as it can make you tenderize in one go.

How to Beat Scarred Yian Garuga

Similarities With the Normal Variant

Most of Scarred Yian Garuga's attack patterns are the same as its normal variant. It is suggested that you practice fighting against the normal variant first to memorize his attack patterns if you are having a hard time.

Scarred Yian Garuga's Fire Attacks

How to Beat - Scarred Yian Garuga 1.png
Scarred Yian Garuga will sometimes shoot multiple fire breaths that can cover a wide area that can be difficult to dodge. The best way to avoid taking damage from these attacks is by moving directly below of Scarred Yian Garuga to get out of the fire's range.

Moving under Scarred Yian Garuga will make you vulnerable to his somersault attacks. Always be prepared to roll away and prioritize dodging over attacking during the whole fight.

Using Flash Pods

The Scarred Yian Garuga will have a longer flight time than the normal variant. Because of this, it will make the fight a bit harder and it will take longer to finish. You can counter his long flight time easily by shooting him down using a Flash Pod with your slinger.

However, if you use too much Flash Pods during the fight, Scarred Yian Garuga will eventually be resistant to it. Try to use it only whenever necessary.

Earplugs for Somersault

How to Beat - Scarred Yian Garuga 2.png
Scarred Yian Garuga will always use his roar before executing the somersault. Depending on your position, you may get disabled by his roar making you vulnerable to the somersault. It is best that you equip gears with at least level 5 earplugs to completely negate any effect from Scarred Yian Garuga's roar.

Extreme Wind Pressure

How to Beat - Scarred Yian Garuga 3.png
Some of Scarred Yian Garuga's attacks can also release a wind pressure before attacking. This wind pressure can stop you from dodging some of his attacks that can deal massive damage. To counter this, you can equip gears with the Windproof skill and raise it to level 5 to counter any wind pressure.

Status Ailments

The Scarred Yian Garuga's somersault attack can inflict a poison status ailment if you manage to get hit. Be sure to prepare an Antidote or a Herbal Powder to cure any poison ailments immediately.

Aiming for the Head and the Tail

You can maximize your damage by focusing your attacks on the head or the tail part of Scarred Yian Garuga. Also, you can soften these parts using your clutch claws to further increase your maximum damage output.

Keep in mind that attacking the wings with low weapon sharpness will just bounce off any of your attacks. It is recommended that you only focus on this part if you have a white or higher sharpness with your current weapon.
