Fighting on horseback limits your movements and attacks, which can be difficult against tougher enemies. Your sword will only do the same swing animation either on your left or your right to deal damage, your bombs are now harder to throw and holding down on your crossbow to aim is almost impossible because of your constant moving while on horseback.

Horse Fear Level

You will automatically fall off your horse if the horse's fear level bar gets full. Equiping better Horse Blinders will increase your Horse's Fear Level

Fighting on Horseback Tips

Hold Attack

How to Fight on Horseback - Extra.jpg

You can delay your sword swing by holding the Square Button or Triangle Button (Y or X Button on switch). Delaying your sword swing can help you properly time your attacks to land them easier especially if you are moving quickly.

Crossbow Quickshot

How to Fight on Horseback - Crossbow.jpg
Tapping R1 while you have your crossbow equipped will instantly fire the crossbow and will be automatically aimed at the target if you are close enough. This technique can be used even on foot or underwater.

Axii on Roach

How to Fight on Horseback - Horse Axii.jpg
You can use Axii on Roach to calm him down and drastically lower the Horse Fear Level bar.
