This page contains information on how to fight underwater in the game The Witcher 3. Read on to learn what are the techniques and tricks you can use to fight monsters while underwater.
List of Contents
Fighting underwater could be difficult because it limits your controls to just moving around the water and using your Crossbow. You will not be allowed to use your swords, bombs and even signs while underwater. If you do not have any Crossbow equipped, you will not be able to fight back unless you try to lure them on land and fight them with your sword and Signs.
Diving underwater will automatically show the Breath Remaining Bar at the top of your screen. This will gradually fill up as long as you are underwater, once it is filled you will slowly take damage until you head back to the surface.
Make it a habit to use your Quen before entering the water. The protective shield from your Quen will stay with you blocking enemy attacks.
The bolt you have equipped will automatically change to regular bolts which is infinite once you go underwater, you will not have to change them everytime to conserve your ammo.
Tapping R1 while you have your crossbow equipped while underwater will instantly fire the crossbow with your regular bolts and will automatically be aimed to nearby targets. This technique can be used while on foot or on horseback.
You can also use the Killer Whale Potion to increase your breath by 50% giving you more time to explore while diving. This Potion also increases your vision if you are underwater.

I hate how much swimming this game has. It's gotta be one of the weaker parts of the game. The underwater combat sucks and objectives that require you to swim is the dullest objectives in the game.
