Follow these useful beginner tips and tricks to get the best out of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Yakuza 8), from quality of life improvements, how to win battles, and more! Read on to learn mechanics that are useful to know in the early game, and what to do when you can't win battles.
List of Contents
Here are six beginner tips that will greatly help you win battles in the early game. These tips will still be useful as you progress to the late game.
You can check what to do next in the Tasks tab in the menu. Substories that have been postponed or that are in progress are also displayed, so view the tab when you're not sure what to do next.
Main Story Walkthrough & Strategy Guides
Taxi Stand ($4) | Taxi from Map ($10) |
---|---|
When traveling to a far target location, we recommend using a taxi. There are two ways to take a taxi: you can call a taxi anywhere, but it's cheaper to take a taxi directly from the taxi stand. If you're short on cash, use the taxi standto avoid wasting money.
Also note that when you're in Hawaii, you won't be able to travel to taxi stands that you haven't visited yet. You'll have to visit taxi stands on foot to be able to travel to them with a taxi.
Another option to getting to your destinations quickly is with the segway, the Street Surfer.
Note that it needs to be recharged once in a while at designated charging stations and it costs money. But it's still very useful, so try to clear it's substory to unlock it.
Substory 6: Surfin' the Streets Rewards
Throwable battle items are sold at certain pawn shops, and are very useful for ranged attacks. Most recommended are the Incendiary Grenades: they are cheap at $10 and are the strongest item you can use to defeat enemies up to Chapter 4.
When progressing through the main story, you'll sometimes be prompted before you progress by entering an area. These prompts usually involve long, extended sequences and boss fights, and you can't fast travel and save your game once you enter the area.
When you see these prompts, consider turning back and preparing first. Stock up on recovery items and battle items before entering.
In the stages of the extended sequences mentioned above, various items and equipment will drop. Once you clear the stage, you won't be able to return and get these items, so be sure to pick these up before you clear the stage.
There are also good items obtainable in the containers scattered throughout the city. Collect Safe Keys to be able to open these containers.
Container Locations: How to Unlock
Gear | Effect and How to Obtain |
---|---|
Lucky Money Charm | ・Increases money obtained from battle by 1.1x ・Exchange 40 points at the Fortune Exchange Office |
Nouveau Riche Crown | ・Increases money obtained from battle by 1.2x ・Defeat the Keepers of the City (crowned enemy) at the Crystal Aloha Resort |
If you want to collect a lot of money, you'll need to prioritize getting the money-increasing gear first, listed above. Equipping both will increase the money you receive in battle by 1.3 times.
Money Farming Guide: How to Get Money Fast
You can obtain the Lucky Money Charm by exchanging your fortune for points at the Fortune Exchange Office as marked on the map above. This will be the fifth reward and will cost you a total of 40 points to unlock.
The Nouveau Riche Crown can be obtained by defeating the Keepers of the City (the crowned enemies) at the Crystal Aloha Resort.
If you're having difficulty winning battles, there are many things you can do to make battles easier.
Battle System | Perfect Guard | Action Prompt |
Back Attack | Combo Attacks | - |
First off, make sure you're using all the mechanics that give you an advantage in battle; you might have missed some of them, so check and review our guides above.
Combo Attacks and Perfect Guard are especially recommended, since they give a significant boost to your gameplay when mastered.
In the early game, just increasing your level by 1 will greatly increase your HP and attack power, making it much easier to win battles.
If you can't win in battle, the main reason is likely your party having a low level, so raise your level by defeating enemies, preferably stronger ones to level up faster.
How to Level Up Fast: Best Way to Gain EXP
In addition to leveling, it is also important to get better equipment and gear. Visit shops to buy new ones, or strengthen the ones that you have at Julie's Gearworks.
Early Game Builds: Best Weapons and Armor
The game has a lot of content outside of the game story, so consider doing them first when you're stuck. Complete substories, play mini games, and engage in fortune telling to get money and items.
