Collect as Many Specialty Items as You Can
In the early game, you'll be mainly increasing your Dondoko Island popularity by collecting specialty items such as bugs and fish. Your popularity level rises each time you add a specific number of entries to the Dokopedia.
Just keep collecting all that you can; your popularity will naturally increase every time you add a new entry or when you collect a huge number of one entry.

DIY items with a Popularity UP effect will permanently increase popularity when used by guests.
As soon as you buy or craft them, just place them on the island; your popularity will constantly increase even without you doing anything.
Run TV Commercials Once Rank Reaches 3 Stars
Once your island reaches Rank 3, you'll unlock TV commercials. Airing a commercial will significantly boost the popularity of your island, although each costs a lot of Dokobucks.
When you have a lot of money lying around, talk to Subaru to buy a commercial. It costs 100,000 Dokobucks for a local TV station ad, and 200,000 for an online broadcast. The broadcast range of the commercials will expand as the resort rank increases.
Note that you can only release a commercial once per day.

Maintain High Popularity to Make High-Rank Guests Return
Customers who come once will be added to the customer list and will return to the island again and again. They'll keep coming back as long as you maintain a high popularity, so make sure to maintain or increase it.
