Hourglass is a city almost swallowed up by the desert. With dust and debris constantly flying around, you can use this to your advantage. Either by making your way through the field using the debris as cover, or by camping inside buildings where people will go in for shelter.
You can take control of the map easier if your team manages to capture both A and E Sectors, as they are hard to recover once secured. It will be easier for your team to dispatch units to the middle sectors from these areas. Take a vehicle and let your teammates join you or spawn on you to capture them quickly at the start of the match.
For the 64-Player map, you need to capture the B Sectors instead to gain an advantage over the map.
Since the map is plain, has many open areas, and only a few elevations, it's better to use guns good at mid-range to long-range shootouts. Equip them with attachments that increase range and reduce recoil to become more effective.
You will most likely die if you travel between sections on foot, especially around the middle part of the map. Try using the Call-In System to bring down a vehicle if you wish to help your team capture sectors that are far away.
There isn't much of a difference between weapons and loadout on the Breakthrough map of Hourglass. Just use weapons and equipment comfortable to you and matches your playstyle the most.
The terrain near the middle sectors of the map favors the attackers. There isn't much cover for the defenders, and they will have limited space. Defenders should use Specialists that excel at crowd controlling and defending, like Boris, Irish, and Dozer to reduce or deplete the resources of the attacking force.
As an attacker, you will want to get to the top of the building fast in the D Sectors, which are the final sectors, before the defenders can set up and put their defenses up. It will be hard for your team to get up once they have fully assigned their forces atop the building. Try not to use the elevators unless they are still regrouping.
For defenders, fall back fast once the attackers get past C sectors so you can prepare for their assault. Put down tanks on top of the building using the Call-In System to have a countermeasure against aircraft.
