List of Contents
Game Mode | Objective |
---|---|
Conquest | Capture sectors and deplete enemy ticket count. |
Breakthrough | Capture or defend Capture Points until either Attackers are defeated or the last Capture Point is taken. |
Hazard Zone | Collect Data Drives and exfiltrate from the map. |
Battlefield 2042 has three general Game Modes available at launch, with one unique game type and three classic game types available as additions through the game's Battlefield Portal. These game types differ slightly from one another, but generally follow the trend of capturing objectives scattered across maps and reducing the enemy's Ticket count.
Player Count | 64 (PS4 / XBOX One) 128 (PS5 / XBOX Series X / PC) |
---|---|
Variants | Multiplayer / Singleplayer |
The most basic and well-known Game Mode in all Battlefield titles is Conquest, which sees players from two opposing sides fight it out for total domination of the entire map.
Each map that can be played with Conquest is divided into several zones called "Sectors". Gaining and losing sectors has a direct impact on the amount of Tickets or respawns you or the enemy has – more sectors controlled means more tickets for your team and less for the enemy.
Once the ticket counter for a team reaches zero, the game ends with the team with the highest ticket count remaining being the winner.
Player Count | 64 (PS4 / XBOX One) 128 (PS5 / XBOX Series X / PC) |
---|---|
Variants | Multiplayer / Singleplayer |
A secondary game mode similar to Conquest, Breakthrough will see players adopt traditional Attacker and Defender roles, with each team competing for capture points around the map until all points are captured or the attacking team defeated.
Breakthrough will see players assigned to being either an Attacker or a Defender. Each map is once again split up into different sectors, with the Attacking team being given the objective of capturing each sector one after the other with a limited Ticket Count, and the Defenders being tasked with preventing them from doing so near indefinitely with infinite respawns.
The game ends when either the Attackers lose all of their Tickets, or if the Defenders fail to prevent the final capture point from being taken.
Player Count | 24 Players or 6 Teams (PS4 / XBOX One) 32 Players or 8 Teams (PS5 / XBOX Series X / PC) |
---|---|
Variants | Multiplayer Only |
The brand new mode Hazard Zone sees players compete for Data Drives scattered all across the map in a Battle Royale-esque game mode where they compete against other teams and enemy AI.
The main objective in Hazard Zone is to collect as many Data Drives as possible alongside your team. These drives can be found in fallen satellite shells scattered across the map, with the main obstacles between the player's team being other opposing teams and enemy AI.
From there, teams can end the game by successfully managing to head to Extraction Points which only open up on two separate occasions. Successfully reaching either of the two points of extraction will end the game, while missing the last extraction opportunity resulting in a total loss for your team.
By accessing Battlefield Portal from the game's menu, you will have access to community-hosted "custom game modes" or community experiences. There are four featured game modes that are based around classic modes from older Battlefield titles, with each mode featuring its own set of Classes, Weapons, Vehicles, and Gear.
Battlefield 1942 Classic Conquest | Bad Company 2 Rush | Battlefield 3 Conquest |
---|
Each Game Mode allows players to experience the Conquest Game Mode through how it was designed in past iterations of the Battlefield franchise. 2042's Specialist system is absent in these maps, replaced instead with the much more rigid Classes system present throughout classic Battlefield titles.
A unique game mode and one of the four modes featured in the Battlefield Portal, VIP Fiesta is a fun mode that takes players into maps with the focus on eliminating an opposition VIP. Dying during the game forces players to redeploy back to the map with an all-new loadout.
