Due to the successive wars fought in Battlefield 3 and 4, the world reaches a tipping point as various ecological and economical breakdowns occur over vast swathes of the Earth, including the collapse of several countries.

It is due to these global disasters that billions of people are left with no home, ultimately banding together the No-Pats. At the heart of it all is Irish, who seeks to help the refugees and prevent a new global war from occuring.

Story and Plot Summary

Battlefield 4's World

Battlefield 4 largely occurs during a fictional world in the year 2020. During the events in that game, the world narrowly avoids a full blown three-nation war between Russia, the United States, and China.

Although players are given a choice to select between Irish and another character that results in their death, the canonical ending would be that Irish lives if 2042's is indeed a sequel to Battlefield 4.
