Silent Hill 2 Remake Mandarin Guide

The Mandarin is a humanoid monster in the Silent Hill 2 Remake. Check out this guide for information on the Mandarin, its locations, and how to beat it!

How To Beat Mandarin

Melee It When It's on The Ceiling

The Mandarin really only has 1 attack to watch out for when its clung to the ceiling, which is its Leg Sweep. Besides that, you can pretty much bully it using melee attacks.

Open After Missing Its Slam Attack

Should the Mandarin attempt to hit you with its signature slam and miss, it leaves itself vulnerable as it's even slower on the ground when using its legs.

Just watch out its follow up tongue attack and you should have a generous window to melee it.

Recommended Weapon: Shotgun

The Mandarin is rather slow, making it a perfect target for the Shotgun.

Mandarin Moves

Move Description
Front Double Slam The Mandarin leaps from the ceiling, slamming both of its large arms down with thunderous force.
Leg Sweep Rears back its right leg before doing a 180-degree sweep attack.
(Can only be done when clinging to the ceiling).
Tongue Lash Raises its body up before quickly extending its tongue straight in front.
Toungenado Usually performs this move after a Front Double Slam. It swirls its tongue around itself.
Roar Lets out a loud roar. Causes no damage but does stagger you.

Monster Stats

Weakspot Head
Attack Strength Strong
Movement Speed Average
Durability High

The Mandarin is almost like a mini-boss enemy given its rarity and tenacity. You only face Mandarins once you reach the Lakeview Hotel, and even then, you fight, at most, less than 5 of them throughout the entire game.

It says you can’t defeat the mandarins that stalk you through the grated flooring but that is incorrect. Even the very first one you encounter can be defeated. While they are hanging under you, you can shoot their arms that are attached to the grate. Shoot one at a time and they will drop their arm from the grate. Then usually they will attack with their tongue through the floor. Dodge it and quickly shoot the other arm still attached and they will detach and fall into the void, permanently.
