When you receive damage, either press or hold 'V' on the PC or TRIANGLE on the PS5 to heal. On the PC, you can further rebind a key to heal, based on your preference.
Though longer, a classic way to heal is to open the Inventory and go to the 'Medical' section. Select either a Health Drink or Syringe and press the 'Use' key/button to heal.
This method also pauses the game, allowing you to think of your next strategy.
Pressing the assigned heal key or button uses a Health Drink. These are easier to obtain and helps recover some health.
Health Drink Locations and How to Use
Holding the assigned heal key or button uses a Syringe. These are harder to obtain and helps recover plenty of health.
Syringe Locations and How to Use
Your HUD is clear. This means that you are perfectly healthy and there is no need to use any healing item.
Your HUD has a light, bloody vignette. This usually happens after taking 1-2 hits from an enemy. James has a slightly slower walk and is clutching his abdomen when idle.
Can do without healing, but it's recommended to at least take a Health Drink if available.
Your HUD has a more pronounced bloody vignette and a slightly flashing cross symbol on the lower right of the screen. James begins limping when walking.
Immediately take a Health Drink. If available, use a Syringe instead.
Your HUD has a deep, bloody vignette and a white-flashing cross symbol on the lower right of the screen. You begin hearing a low heartbeat and James's movement is visibly crippled.
Immediately take a Syringe. One more hit during this state will likely kill you. If no Syringes are available, keep taking Health Drinks instead until at least the Average Wounds state.
