Here's how to beat the final boss, Maria/Mary, in the Silent Hill 2 Remake. Check out our guide for the game's final boss fight walkthrough and information on the Maria/Mary encounter!
How to Beat Maria/Mary
Use The Handgun for Phase 1
While it may sound like an odd choice, the Handgun might actually perform better, overall, than the Hunting Rifle, at least for Maria/Mary's 1st phase.
The Handgun shoots faster, is easier to aim, and simply handles more efficiently.
Use The Hunting Rifle for Phase 2
Maria/Mary actually moves slower when she enters her 2nd phase. During this segment of the boss battle, she's easier to hit with the Hunting Rifle because she moves less and has a slightly bigger hitzone.
Freely Use Up Your Ammo Stock
Since this is the final battle in the entire game, no need to conserve ammo. It's easier to deal with Maria/Mary with your guns than to try and get in some melee attacks.

Maria/Mary Moves
Innate Moves
| Move | Description |
|---|---|
| Swarm | Causes a swarm of butterflies to attack you. |
| Teleport | Envelops herself in black butterflies and reappears somewhere else in the area. |
| Wail | Lets out an ear-piercing shriek. Does this to interrupt your attacks. |
Phase 1
| Move | Description |
|---|---|
| Tendril Swipe | Swipes either to the right, left, or sometimes alternating the two. |
| Tendril Thrust | Slightly reels backwards before thrusting her tendril in front. |
Phase 2
| Move | Description |
|---|---|
| Limb Lash | Attacks in a broad and far-reaching sweep with her right limb and tendril. |
| Limb Strike | Strikes an area in front of her with either the right or left limb. (Can attack more than once). |
| Leap | Does a mid-range leaping attack towards you. |
Maria/Mary Encounter
Lakeview Hotel (Otherworld)
Maria/Mary is the final boss you will encounter.
You are seemingly reunited with your deceased wife, Mary, after reaching the top-most floor of the Lakeview Hotel. She then begins transforming as James comes to terms with the truth.
