Unlock the In Water Ending

To reach the Stillness Ending, players need to have unlocked the In Water Ending as well as be on a New Game+ file.

Find the Key of Sorrow and Toluca Lake Postcard

On the New Game+ file, find the Key of Sorrow in a green car near the intersection of Wiltse Road and Nathan Avenue; break the car's right window using the Chainsaw to get it.

Proceed through the game normally until you reach the Lakeview Hotel Otherworld. Here, go to the Manager's Office and unlock a safe using the key, and the code of 314. This grants the Toluca Lake Postcard. With the postcard in your inventory, continue through to the game's end.

Unlock the In Water Ending

The Stillness Ending is a new ending added in the Silent Hill 2 Remake. To gain access to it, players must first unlock the In Water Ending of the game.

This is accomplished by keeping James' health low during a playthrough, as well as constantly inspecting Angela's Knife.

After unlocking the In Water ending, players will need to start a New Game+ playthrough, as this is also a prerequisite for the Stillness Ending.

Find the Key of Sorrow in a Green Car

This first item needed for the Stillness Ending is the Key of Sorrow, found in a green car at the intersection of Wiltse Road and Nathan Avenue. The Chainsaw is needed to destroy the car's right rear window to obtain the key.

Open the Manager's Office Safe

After getting the Key of Sorrow, players can proceed normally until they reach the Lakeview Hotel Otherworld. Once in this area, head to the Manager's Office to find a safe; use the Key of Sorrows on it.

Players will also need to input 314 for the combination to fully open the safe, and obtain the Toluca Lake Postcard.

Proceed to the Game's End

After collecting the postcard, players can proceed with the game once more until they finish the final boss fight and end the game. If the above steps were completed, the Stillness Ending will begin to play.

What is the Stillness Ending?

Alternate Version of In Water Ending

The Stillness Ending can be considered an alternate version of the In Water ending. We see James sitting in his car and lamenting the loss of Mary, but before James drives into Toluca Lake, Mary appears in the back seat.

James apologizes to Mary, and she consoles him before vanishing and leaving her letter in the passenger seat. In this ending, James continues to carry his guilt for killing Mary, and drives into Toluca Lake.
