One of the original Silent Hill 2 Maps appears in game. The Wood Side Apartments has a sign in the courtyard depicting the original South Vale map, and it appears again in Neely's Bar in the Western South Vale Otherworld.
In a New Game+, players can acquire the Chainsaw, a powerful weapon that is effective against many enemies. It also allows James to perform a reference to the original game, as he poses with the weapon.
This calls back to a pose that James does with the Chainsaw in the original game, leaning on it like a cane. James can also go wild with it in the remake, swinging and shaking it over his head while acting tough.
Maria's outfit from the original game can be found in Room 108 of Jacks Inn Motel, in the Western South Vale area.
The iconic cropped red cardigan and pink leopard print skirt are hanging in an open closet. If brought to it, Maria will eventually ask if she'd look good in it, commenting that the outfit is “a classic”.
The Silent Hill Ranch also hides an easter egg for more thorough players to find. Going out of bounds and into the actual ranch building will reveal the Silent Hill Ranch Comic Sans Sign.
This references the Silent Hill HD Collection, which changed the sign font to Comic Sans. Why the font was changed was never explained, and the sign became an infamous icon associated with the HD Collection.

The Great Knife is a usable weapon in the original Silent Hill 2. It makes its appearance again in the remake, but this time it can only be used in the Labyrinth.
The Pyramid Head Mask (pizza box) and Dog Mask for James reference the Pyramid Head boss and the Shiba-Inu dog in the Dog ending respectively. These alternative masks were a part of the pre-order bonuses for the game.

Bloober Team hid a contorversial easter egg in the Silent Hill 2 Remake, which is Mary's real body and its location. Although, you have to go out of bounds to see it, but Mary's real body is actually located in the back set of James' car.
According to a tweet back in 2012 from Team Silent's former director, Masahiro Ito, he confirmed that Mary's body was included in the game by stating, “The Mary's body is on the back seat of James's car, not in the trunk, if I remember correctly.”
James' famous pizza line, “Ugh. This town is full of monsters. Who could just sit here and eat pizza.”, is a reference from a cutscene in the original game, where James and Maria sees Eddie eating pizza in the bowling alley.
This pizza one liner was fa will trigger after interacting with the pizza box inside Pete's Bowl-O-Rama in Western South Vale.

There is also a Let's NOT Party! trophy for shooting down all 11 balloons in Room 207 of the Wood Side Apartments. Players will need at least 11 bullets to do so.
Players can find pizza in Pete’s Bowl-O-Rama, in the Western South Vale area, for another trophy. Unfortunately, the pizza, much like most of the town, is decrepit and in tatters.

UFO Ending | Dog Ending |
The UFO Ending makes its return in the Silent Hill 2 Remake. Similar to the original game, players need to start a New Game+ and find a Blue Gem that they can use at specific points of the story to achieve this ending.
The ending has been slightly changed in the remake. Now, James comes face to face with Space James, who is using the original Silent Hill 2 model, and it is revealed that the former is just a clone. James is abducted, and Space James takes his place on Earth to be with Mary.
The Dog Ending also returns. To reach it, players need to be on a New Game+ file, and collect the Broken Key Paw and Bone Parts to fuse them into a Dog Key. This can be used to open the Observation Room in the Lakeview Hotel.
Opening the door to the Observation Room will reveal that a dog has been pulling the strings for the entire town of Silent Hill. James will fall to his knees in disbelief, as the dog comes over to lick his face.
